Recently, Graeme Cobbett, an enterprise-level PC user of Dell, asked Dell to delete Windows Vista pre-installed in its purchased studio 1555 notebook. The operating system has been upgraded to Windows 7 for free, graeme Cobbett later installed the free Linux mint operating system on the machine. To this end, Dell was forced to refund the user the $115 required to install Windows Vista.

Graeme explained in his blog why he gave up the Windows operating system. He said: "Let's take a closer look at Microsoft's terminal user authorization protocol, you will find that many of these terms are unacceptable to you, so I discard the Windows operating system."

Everyone has the right to refuse to accept the end-user agreement, but you certainly need some technology to install other operating systems to do so. In this example, Graeme downloads the installation file of the Linux mint operating system from another machine, and then burns the installation file to the CD using the ISO recorder software, use this CD to install linux mint on your studio 1555.

This Graeme successfully received a refund from Dell and flexibly applied this rule in the Microsoft EULA agreement:

"Using Microsoft's software means that you accept the EULA terms. If you do not accept the EULA terms, please do not use this software from our company. However, you can return the software to the product retailer and get a refund from them. if you cannot receive a refund from the retailer, you can also contact the local offices of Microsoft."

Original agreement:

"By using the software, you accept these terms. if you do not accept them, do not use the software. instead, return it to the retailer for a refund or credit. if you cannot obtain a refund there, contact Microsoft or the Microsoft affiliate serving your country for information about Microsoft's refund policies ies."

Compared to the simplicity of installing Linux mint, Graeme's request for refund operation was a great deal of money. It took him more than two months and he sent 14 emails to Dell, finally, we were able to get a refund from Dell.
