- VNC (Virtual Network Computing) is simply a Xwindow remote connection.
- VNC is a screen-sharing and remote operation software that uses the RFB interface. This software, by way of the web, can transmit the keyboard and mouse motion and the instant screen.
- VNC can be used across platforms, using Windows to connect to a Linux computer, and vice versa.
- VNC can also be used in computers that do not have an installed user-side program, as long as there are browsers that support JAVA.
- Since VNC is licensed under the GPL, a few VNC software has been derived:
- RealVNC: Developed by part of the VNC team, it is divided into full-featured commercial and free editions.
- TightVNC: It is strongly tuned to save bandwidth. Rhel 6, the CentOS 6 built-in TigerVNC is the branch of TightVNC.
- UltraVNC: Added the TightVNC partial program and the enhanced graphics mapping driver, and the account password verification of active Directory and NTLM, but only the Windows version.
