Remove orphaned hosts and desktop pools from the VMware View desktop


In the process of using the VMware View desktop, you can use the following methods if you want to remove these orphaned virtual machines and desktop pools in view administrator because of a variety of reasons (such as reinstalling Vcenter Server) that cause the view desktop pool to be lost.

1 Login View composer Delete orphaned virtual machines

Enter the view composer server, open the View composer installation location, copy the path, as shown in 1-3. By default, this path is C:\Promram Files (x86) \VMware\VMware View Composer.

Open "System properties → environment variables → system variables" and add the path to path path at the end, as shown in 1-4. Note, add an English semicolon (;) after the original path, and then paste the path.

After entering the prompt, use the sviconfig command to delete the orphaned virtual machine in view administrator, where the virtual machine name that needs to be removed is win7x-001, win7x-002, and other virtual machines (labeled in 1-2), and each command deletes a virtual machine. The command is as follows.

sviconfig-operation=removesviclone-vmname=win7x-001

Enter View Composer Admin password:*************

Get clone ID.

Remove linked clone.

Removesviclone operation completed successfully.

When deleting a virtual machine, you need to enter the administrator password for the view composer.

As shown in 1-5.

Then use the commands in turn to remove these orphaned virtual machines. As shown in 1-6.

2 Log on view connection server Delete database

After you log in to the View connection server, use Adsiedit.msc to delete the virtual machine pool.

(1) Log on to the Horizon View connection server as an administrator, open the Run dialog box, enter Adsiedit.msc, and return to 1-14.

(2) After you open ADSI Edit, right-click the Adsk Editor and select "Connect to" in the popup dialog box, 1-15.

(3) in the "Connection Settings" dialog box that pops up, click "Select or type a distinguished name or naming context" at connection point and enter DC=VDI,DC search =vmware,dc=int in the column (in English, this name is not related to your Active Directory domain name) , click Select or type a domain or server at the computer, enter localhost:389 (1-16), or enter your computer name and port number, for example, vcs.heuet.com:389 (1-17) In this example, and then click the OK button.

(4) Return to ADSI Edit, expand Ou=server Groups, and then delete the orphaned virtual machine desktop pool (shown in 1-1), as shown in cn=win7x,1-18.

(5) After you expand Ou=applications, delete cn=win7x,1-19 as shown.

Log in to view Administrator again, and you can see that the orphaned virtual machine desktop pool has been removed, as shown in 1-20.
