Remove system compressed files from Win10 Disk Cleanup

Before the Win7 system, Disk Cleanup is an important way to improve the speed of our computer. Although the Win7 system has no need for manual Disk Cleanup, Disk Cleanup is still an important tool in the Windows system that can help save disk space by removing useless files from the system.

By default, this tool runs simple mode, which only allows the user to delete files related to the current account. However, users can switch to advanced mode to remove more useless files, such as Windows Update patches and service packs, and so on. In the WIN10 preview, Advanced mode adds more functionality than before. What is currently found is the system compression option (this option is likely to be absent if your computer has been cleaned before).

However, if you want to see this option, you need to run the Disk Cleanup tool in admin mode, or switch from normal mode to advanced mode by tapping the Clean System files button.

Procedure for the system compression option:

1, in the Start menu Search bar input cleanmgr (or directly enter "Disk Cleanup"), the top search results on the right click, select "Run as Administrator";

2, in the pop-up window to select your system disk (usually the default is C disk), and then click OK. After that you need to wait about more than 10 seconds (depending on your computer situation, wait patiently, will come out), the Disk Cleanup window will pop up.

3, find the "disk compression" (System Compression) option, you can check delete it.

It is still not clear what data is being compressed, but from a description file, the mechanism uses embedded NTFS compression to compress the file to free up disk space. Old Windows users may recall having a "compress old files" option in the WinXP Disk Cleanup tool, but this option was removed from the vista system. Compressing data can free up a lot of disk space. This feature is useful if your WIN10 preview system has limited disk space. However, this feature is not mentioned in the official document.

Disk Cleanup After several Windows systems, although some changes have been made, the overall functionality has not changed much. So it is also a good choice to use Disk Cleanup when you are running a slow computer card.
