Report Making tool: Reporting Services

How fast, simple to do a good report has been the vast number of programmers are looking forward to. In daily development, when it comes to making statements, there are generally two ways to do this:

1 convert the data into Excel,word and other forms, then print.

2 use of third-party reporting tools, such as the famous Crystal Report, ActiveReport, and so on, but the following problem is, to in-depth grasp of these reporting tools, there is a certain degree of difficulty, the need for certain experience.

This year, Microsoft has finally launched a new generation of report solutions------Microsoft Reporting Service. It is a complete server-based platform that can create, manage, and publish traditional paper-based reports or interactive, web-based reports. And the biggest feature is that it uses the XML based RDL report Description Language to customize the report, can be used to give the third party custom development conforms to the interface Standard Report Tool, enables the software development person and the enterprise can integrate the report to the existing system or the third party application. Reporting services include:

· An engine that is used to store and process reports

· Extensible architecture and developed interfaces that embed or integrate reports into solutions in a variety of IT environments

As you can see from the diagram above, the Reporting service can be connected to different databases, such as SQL SERVER,ORACLE,DB2, or you can export the report to a variety of formats, such as Pdf,html.,txt,excel. Also, Reporting server can publish reports as XML WebService, easily integrate with other systems in the enterprise, and easily manage reports for users of reports, producers, and managers.
