Cocos2d-x is an excellent open-source C + + cross-platform game engine for mobile device game development. Microsoft Open Technology is providing code for open source projects to support Windows devices.
Last month, we partnered with Beijing Touch Technology Limited to organize the first-round programming marathon, inviting developers from Big Fish, Pixowl, PlayFirst and Idle games. The purpose of this event is to enable access to the Windows Phone and Windows Store for existing Cocos2d-x games on Android and IOS systems. We have benefited a lot from the one-day programming contest. We've written some tips into the white paper, detailing the six main steps required to introduce Cocos2d-x games to Windows, and are happy to share them with you on our project page.
Dale Stammen, the project's lead developer, details the six steps required to run existing code on the Windows Phone and/or Windows store:
- Use the project creation tool to create a cocos2d-x project.
- Create Windows 8 and Windows Phone projects in Visual Studio.
- Copy the source code containing C + + and header files to the project's "Class" directory. Add these files to your project in Visual Studio.
- Copy the resource to the project's "Resources" directory.
- Modify some of the project settings that are required for compilation.
- For Windows Phone, convert the MP3 file to a WAV file. Also, replace fonts that are not supported by Windows Phone, or update the code to use the fonts available on the platform
Sounds very simple, doesn't it? If you have already written a cross-platform game, you may have completed some of the above steps. If you are planning to develop a cross-platform game, you can take a look at these steps. With just a little extra effort, you can open up a broad market for Windows 8 and Windows Phone devices.
Expect to see these new games in the Windows store, and always welcome your feedback. Tell us about your access to cocos2d-x games and we are happy to incorporate your feedback into the white paper.
