Palantiotechnologies is an IT technology company that provides analysis, integration, and visualization of a variety of data. In this company, front-end engineers and back-end engineers have the same interview process, and front-end engineers also need a certain programming Foundation. The company's technical blog palantioteckblog recently published a blog post "the UI design interview", introducing the company's interview process and some experiences with front-end designers. CsdnArticleCompiled with the following content:

Our front-end engineers and back-end engineers have the same interview process, such as testAlgorithmAnd encoding. Because front-end engineers need to develop the customer-oriented part of the system, we hope that candidates have a certain programming Foundation. Now let's talk about our interview process.

Why design interviews for design engineers?

I like to stay in the front-end engineer team of palantio, most of the reason is that we can participate in the design and implementation of the product UI. Engineers can participate in product design with other engineers and designers, and we can discuss our ideas publicly. The interview of the UI Designer should follow the process of collaborative design and discussion. This means that during the interview, you will be asked to design or evaluate one or two uidesigns and test your collaboration and discussion skills.

The following are some helpful suggestions that can be kept in mind when dealing with design issues during the interview.

All for users

The user is the final judge of the success or failure of any interface. If users can easily complete tasks with simple, efficient, and intuitive guidance, what we do will be successful. Therefore, we should put users in our hearts at any stage of design.

The easiest mistake we made before design was to treat ourselves as users. Working with computers is a very lonely job. It makes it easy for us to forget that everyone will experience a user interface in a different way. With the interface you designed, you can become a completely new user or a skilled system administrator.

It is important to think about what users like. First, create a user, including his name, age, and occupation. Then ask yourself the following questions:

● Under what circumstances will the user use this function? At work? At home? Or before a 10-step TV?

● Have they used similar interfaces before?

● What are their computer capabilities? Will they copy and paste them? Will the content menu be opened? .

When adding new features to an interface, first draw a sketch for the main control (button, list, text box. Then simulate the use of this function.

When drafting the interface you imagine, please put yourself in the correct position for the user to think about. You can ask yourself the following questions:

● What can they do when they want to do X?

● How do they find this feature?

● What do they want to do next?

● How often are they doing X?

● What may happen if x fails?

Such problems. Ask yourself these questions, consider the impact of these questions on your design, and make modifications in the design.

Interview is a very important interaction process

Some interviewers are embarrassed to refute the interviewer. In fact, we prefer the opposite. If you have any good ideas, express them. I prefer to refute my interviewer as long as he can well support his views through debates and stories. The clearer you are, the better.

Be creative, but do not redesign existing features

I have seen many interviewers fall into a very embarrassing design trap to show some very simple data. If you have a set of data, you can use the list to display them. In general, it is helpful to be familiar with the UI because they have solved many design difficulties.

The interface you designed allows you to complete tasks quickly and easily; otherwise, the interface design will be stopped. Do not add unnecessary functions to the entire user interface. As in Deiter ramsFamous saying"The simpler the design, the better ". This applies not only to interface design but also to product design.

If you want to quickly and easily determine the simplicity of the new feature, you only need to click a few times on this interface to complete this task. If you must move the mouse from the mouse to the keyboard, convert one count to two.

How to prepare

If you have worked in design and experience in team collaboration, we welcome you and will do better. If you do not have any experience, the following methods can help you improve your design skills:

● If you are still attending school, we recommend that you take more project-based courses. This allows you to gain more practical design experience.

● Use all opportunities to cultivate your design concept. Constantly ask yourself: "How can we make a difference? How can we design it better ?" The more you ask yourself, the more unconscious and natural they will become. Soon you will want to learn more about the design of everything in your daily life.

● Design something and pay attention to the UI.

● Please comment on your work. Let people with design experience look at your design work and they will point out issues you have never discovered.

● Read more about UI/UX/HCI/infoviz. There are a lot of good book boxes and blogs. Like Alan Cooper's "about face", Stephen Few's "now you see it" and Steve Krug's "don't make me think" are worth reading.
