Although Ubuntu has two different desktops, the way to set up Ubuntu is exactly the same in two different desktop environments. Complete the following settings as long as you know how to launch Ubuntu Software Center and Control Center.

1. Setting up a network connection

If you are using ADSL, please follow these steps to set up:

    1. Click the network indicator in the notification area, select Edit Connection in the menu, and start the network connection settings.
    2. Select the DSL tab in the Network connection settings and click the Add button.
    3. In the Edit DSL Connection dialog box, you have the following options to set:

      • Connection Name: Enter the name of the network connection, such as a broadband connection. The connection name appears in the Network Connections menu of the network indicator.
      • User name: Fill in the account name provided by the ADSL service provider.
      • Password: Fill in the password provided by the ADSL service provider.

If using wireless Internet access, click on the network indicator, the menu will show all detected wireless networks and their signal strength, select the available wireless network.

If the wireless network has WEP or WPA protection, the wireless network icon will have a lock-like flag, after clicking on the wireless connection, Ubuntu will ask the password, enter the password can be connected.

Note: If no wireless network is detected, it may be because the wireless card needs to install additional drivers to be able to use, Start Control Center, select additional drivers in the hardware category, install additional drivers for the wireless network card.

2. Install full language support, update system and activate restricted driver

After you start the system for the first time, Ubuntu prompts you to install the full language support, update the system, and activate the restricted driver, and after setting up the network connection, we should follow the prompts to install the full language support, update the system and activate the available restricted drivers, and then reboot when all is done.

If you have previously closed these windows, you can restart them in control center. Start the control center, select the System category language support, the system will check the full extent of language support after the installation of full language support, select the system category of the Update Manager, the system after checking the update will be prompted to update the system, select the hardware category of additional drivers, After checking for available restricted drivers, the system prompts to activate the available restricted drivers.

If you find that the speed is too slow at the time of these steps, because the software source is slow, see Ubuntu Linux (v): Ubuntu uses the underlying content to modify the software source to a faster server.
