Used dq77kb to build a small storage System (POST link: http://www.chiphell.com/thread-567753-1-1.html), has been using the Intel motherboard with the soft RAID feature built RAID5 to use, After using a period of time found and not good management, can not be expanded (motherboard only 4 native SATA port, the expansion can not be added to the raid group), degraded after the rebuild time is very long, so there is a change of storage mode of the idea;

Yesterday, after reloading the win8, found in the control Panel has a "storage space" function, search the relevant information on the Web, found that it is quite interesting, a bit like the soft raid in the win server, but more simple than that, you can easily create a good storage space for expansion, and support different storage type interface, different types of memory devices, different capacity of the drive to join in this storage space, after understanding this function, the data in my original RAID5 volume back to the mobile hard disk, and then deleted the motherboard created by the RAID volume, Build a storage space using the storage pool feature of the Win8 band:

Features of the storage space in the control Panel:
<ignore_js_op>

There is a simple introduction after you go in:
<ignore_js_op>

Clicking "Create new pool and storage space" will prompt you to use those disks to create the I here is 4 1T of 2.5-inch SATA hard disk, the information on the Internet that can be used any type of storage equipment, we are interested to try (later do not worry about the motherboard is not enough SATA port, extended out can also use, USB port can also be used):
<ignore_js_op>

Select the need to add to the storage pool drive and click Create, will initialize the hard disk, if the hard disk has data, will be completely deleted, here to note:
<ignore_js_op>

After initialization is the choice of storage pool backup type, there are 4 types: simple, bidirectional mirroring, three-way mirror, parity, simple is to put a few disk space into a large space, without any protection, a hard disk hangs the data on this disk is hung, two-way mirror is RAID1, Each piece of data is written to a paired disk, the three-way mirror is not understood, the free space Beechcraft parity is less, but more than the bidirectional mirror, parity is RAID5:

I chose the fourth type, parity check:
<ignore_js_op>

When you click Create storage space, it's quickly created, much faster than using the motherboard's RAID capabilities:
<ignore_js_op>

Once created, you can view information about each disk, and you can add a physical drive to the created storage pool as well:
<ignore_js_op>

What you see in Windows Explorer is the same as a normal hard disk partition:
<ignore_js_op>

Look at attributes as well:
<ignore_js_op>

You cannot see 4 physical disks in Disk Manager, only one large storage space is visible:
<ignore_js_op>

Run down the read and write speed, with the motherboard with the same soft RAID5 ...

For the students who use the computer motherboard to do Nas, the WIN8 storage pool function is still very useful, mainly can use a different drive (as long as Windows can recognize) to build a large storage space, as well as protection functions, unlike the motherboard with the RAID function, Must be on the motherboard of the original number of SATA ports on the disk to create a RAID volume, not only maintenance inconvenient, and the starter series chipset also does not have the RAID function, to buy the motherboard with raid function cost is lower ...

Later I would like to add two more 1T disk, 6 of the disk positions are used up, do not worry about the last two of the disk is the mini PCIe expansion out of the ...
This feature is the first time I use, still in the groping, use during the experience of what I will update to this post [Sun]
