Resolve the BCD management tool under Windows 7

The BCD (boot Configuration Date) is the system boot configuration data, which was introduced from Windows Vista. We know that in Windows Vista/server 2008 the Bootmanager component is responsible for initializing and booting the system, while the boot data for the matching system is stored in the BCD. I believe you are very concerned about the BCD data management under Windows 7, the following author and you together on this aspect of the discussion.

1. BCD Data management Tools

Perhaps the most common and familiar system boot management is the system's advanced Boot menu, which is no exception under Windows 7. When a boot failure occurs, in order to successfully enter the system or to make a mistake, we will choose to press the F8 key into the Advanced Boot option menu during the system startup process and choose an advanced boot mode from the menu to boot. The main ways we can choose to boot are safe mode, enable Boot logging, Last Known Good Configuration, directory Services Restore mode, and disable front-driver enforcement. It is necessary to note that these advanced modes temporarily fix the operating system startup to help troubleshoot and diagnose the problem, but these patterns do not make any permanent modifications to the boot configuration or the BCD store. Therefore, the System advanced boot menu is not a valid BCD data management tool. Similar to previous Windows systems, the tools available in Windows 7 for modifying boot configurations and managing BCD storage are mainly the startup and Recovery Console, the System Configuration Usage tool (Msconfig.exe), and the Advanced BCD editor (Bcdedit.exe )。 This article takes these three tools as an example to say the management of BCD data. 2. Implement system Boot configuration with "Startup and Recovery" console

In the Windows 7 Startup and Recovery Console, we can configure basic options during system startup, which you can use to set the default operating system, the display time of the available operating system selection menu, and the time to restore options when needed. Whether or not you need to boot your computer to a different operating system, you can optimize these settings to reduce the time required for system startup and to speed up the system's startup process.

Follow these steps to enter the Windows 7 Startup and Recovery Console: Right-click the computer icon on the desktop to select Properties, and in the System Properties window, click the Advanced System Settings link under tasks in the left pane. Under the Advanced tab of the System Properties dialog box, click the Settings button under Startup and recovery options to enter the startup and Recovery Console as shown in Figure 2. In the console, we can select the default operating system to boot, on a computer with more than one operating system installed, click the list of default operating systems to select the operating system that you want to start by default, and if only one system is installed, the current system is the default boot system. You can set the display time for the operating system select list by selecting the time to display the list of operating systems check box and entering the time (in seconds) to use in the text box on the right. To speed up the system's startup speed, if only one system in the computer can set it to "0", the boot menu is not displayed to direct the default system. In addition, in the Startup and Recovery Console, you can set up subsequent actions in the event of a system failure. Because this part of the content has little to do with BCD, and some authors have done a very deep parsing (the link is http://winsystem.ctocio.com.cn/Longhorn/88/8850588_1.shtml), so skip.
