What is QoS? QoS (Quality of Service), a security mechanism of the network, is a technique used to solve problems such as network latency and congestion. It is necessary for key applications and multimedia applications. When the network overload or congestion, QoS ensures that important traffic is not delayed or discarded, while ensuring the efficient operation of the network.
Setting QoS Policies
What is QoS? QoS (Quality of Service), a security mechanism of the network, is a technique used to solve problems such as network latency and congestion. It is necessary for key applications and multimedia applications. When the network overload or congestion, QoS ensures that important traffic is not delayed or discarded, while ensuring the efficient operation of the network. In short, it is to improve the network priority of the game program to achieve the goal of reducing latency. Here we take the Game of Warcraft as an example to test.
Note: The home standard and home advanced version of Windows 7 are not able to use the Group Policy feature, please note.
New policy
Enter "Gpedit.msc" into Group Policy settings in the Start Menu Search window, find the "policy-based QoS" option, right-click the new policy, we name it "WOW", and then set the DSCP value to 63, click Next. Choose to apply this QoS policy to applications with this executable name only, and then enter World of Warcraft Wow in the following column. EXE program full path, then click Next. Choose the default can be the last click Complete, restart the computer, you can see the effect, according to the author's repeated testing, can reduce the delay of about 80ms.
Set path
Tip: What is the DSCP? The DSCP value is used in QoS to specify the priority of the packet in the QoS dispatch, and the higher the value, the greater the priority. Of course, this method is not for all computers are effective, generally suitable for dial-up Internet access through ADSL friends, if it is in many users of the local area network, the effect will not be obvious.
Disabling the MMCSS service
If the above method does not solve the problem, we also try another way to remove the MMCSS service. The full name of the MMCSS service is multimedia class Scheduler, the function of which is "run in the service host Svchost.exe file, which automatically promotes the priority of audio and video playback to prevent other software from excessively hogging the CPU time that the playback software should get." As a result, the amount of CPU time allocated to the network will naturally be less, which will affect the speed ", so we can try to disable the service to achieve the goal of reducing game latency."
Delete Service
First enter "regedit" into the registry in the Search window to find hkey_local_machine/system/
Currentcontrolset/services/audiosrv this item, double-click to open the DependOnService item on the right, remove the mmcss from it, keep the other 2, and click OK to reboot the computer. Then right click on "Computer", find "multimedia Class Scheduler" in the service item, stop this service first, then set the startup type to "disabled".
