Google has officially unveiled Google glasses at the I/O developer conference last June. Once released, Google glasses by virtue of its innovative design and advanced concept of concern. But what is the principle of such a magical spectacle? Recently, the U.S. science and Technology media Gizmodo released a Google glasses structure map to people clearly reveal the rationale behind the Google glasses.
As can be seen from the figure, Google glasses are mainly composed of batteries, CPUs, cameras, speakers, microphones, miniature projectors and prisms. The miniature projector and the prism are the key to realize the main function. First, the miniature projector projects the picture on the prism, and then through the reflection of the prism eventually enters the human eye, so that the image is focused on the central concave position in the retina (the image is clearest), so the user can see the virtual image that the Google glasses emits.
It is worth noting that, because the use of a semi-reverse half-through prism, so the presence of the prism does not block the light into the eye, but only a layer of virtual images superimposed on the real image. Also, the position of the virtual image in the eye depends on the location of the Google glasses. That is to say, the assumption in the eyes of the real scene when the focus is in the center of the field of vision, and at this time if the virtual image in the eye in the upper right corner, then the user to see the real scene, the virtual image is blurred, will not interfere with people's vision. If you need to get the information in the virtual image, the user just has to turn the eye to the top right (the eye will focus automatically), and you can see the clear virtual image. Of course, if by changing the location of Google Glasses, the virtual image in the center of vision, then the visual field of virtual images and display images will be clear.
However, Google glasses also has some limitations. For example, if the user himself wears glasses, then the distance between the Google glasses and the retina will be increased (when not wearing glasses this distance of 2.4cm), so that the Google glasses does not look like a pair of glasses. It will undoubtedly increase the manufacturing cost to develop the special edition for the users with glasses alone. On the whole, however, Google glasses are definitely a fantastic science and technology masterpiece.
