Windows NT 3.x

The history of developing Windows NT is roughly traced back to 1988. This system was originally developed by Microsoft and IBM nt OS/2 (OS/2 version 3.0 ). at that time, Microsoft tried to enter the workstation market, while the intel X86 chip supported by windows was not a workstation processor. Therefore, Microsoft hired the DEC team to develop this product. later, due to the success of Windows 3.0, Microsoft decided to change the program development interface of nt OS/2 from OS/2 API to Windows API. the move caused IBM's dissatisfaction, and the two companies separated. IBM continues to develop its own OS/2, while Microsoft renamed OS/2 NT as Windows NT and pushed it to the market. This is Windows NT 3.1.

Windows NT 3.1 was released on July 15, 1993. on the surface, it is no different from Windows 3.1. however, due to the completely rewritten 32-bit kernel, Windows NT is destined to be an excellent new product than Windows 3. X series is much more powerful. it can be used either on a professional workstation or on an Intel chip-based PC. since then, Microsoft has its own main products in both the commercial and home markets. in the second year, Windows NT 3.5, codenamed "Daytona", was released. this time, Microsoft divided the NT operating system into workstation and server versions, which laid the seeds for the subsequent non-commercial nt series. windows NT 3.5 includes a new boot screen, similar to Windows for workgroups 3. X user interface and improved Ole (Object embedding) technology. thanks to a large number of new technologies, Windows NT 3.1 and 3.5 have become Microsoft's best touchstone in the commercial market.
