Experimental purpose
Mastering how RIP routing protocols are configured on routers
Demand analysis
Two routers are connected by a fast Ethernet port, two loopback ports are set up on each router, the RIP routing protocol is run on all ports, and interoperability between all subnets is realized.
Principle of experiment
RIP is a typical distance vector protocol for small homogeneous networks, which is an early application and a more common IGP (internal Gateway Protocol).
The RIP protocol takes a hop count as a measure of path overhead, and the RIP protocol specifies a maximum hop count of 15.
RIP uses 3 timers when constructing the routing table, namely the update timer, the invalid timer, and the refresh timer. It allows each router to periodically send a complete routing table to each neighboring neighbor. The routing table includes information about each network or subnet, and the metrics associated with it.
