Currently, the company uses vsphere for virtualization. At present, there are about 7 physical machines. To better manage virtual machines, we plan to go to vcenter.

Next, we will record the installation and configuration of vcenter. The vcenter version is 5.5, and there is no separate database or AD domain control.

VcenterInstall the related software packages as follows:

The VMware-viclient-all-5.5.0-1281650 is the Client installation file, the VMware-VIMSetup-all-5.5.0-1312299.iso is the vcenter installation file, and the VMware-VMvisor-Installer-5.5.0-1331820.x86_64.iso is the esxi Installation File.

I. Prerequisites for vcenter5.5 Installation

Vcenter5.5 must be installed on windows server 2008 x64 or later.

Vcenter5.5 does not have to be a separate SQL Server database.

Vcenter5.5 servers do not have to be added to the domain.

You are advised not to install IIS on vcenter5.5 servers.

Vcenter5.5 server hardware is configured with 4 GB memory, 4-core CPU, 50 GB hard disk.

To install vCenter, we select Custom installation. When selecting vCenter Server Installation, we can see that vCenter Singnle-On and vCenter list services must be installed first. As follows:

Ii. Install vCenter Singnle-On

Now we start to install vCenter Singnle-On.

Note: In the following articles, we will only describe the important parts, but not the other parts.

Install vCenter Singnle-On as follows:

It is a prerequisite for installing Sign-On. We can see it clearly. This server is not added to AD.

The information in is very important. This includesSign-OnThe logon domain, user, and password. This domain, user, and password will be frequently used in subsequent installation and logon to vcenter.

Use the default site name.

Define the port for https running. Use the default port here. Note: This port is the communication port between Sign-On and VCenter.

Sign-On installation information preview.

By now, the installation of Sign-On has been completed.

Iii. Install the vCenter Configuration Service

To install the vCenter Configuration Service, follow the Sign-On command as follows:

We can see that to install the vCenter list service, we must first follow the Sign-On. For installation of Sign-On, see Chapter 2.

Install the vCenter Configuration Service as follows:

Fully Qualified Domain Name. The default value is enough.

Define the ports of each service in vCenter to keep the default value.

Select Based on the deployment scale. VCenter stand supports up to 1000 hosts. Here we choose a small scale.

The sso administrator username remains the default, and the sso administrator password is the password we entered when we started installing Sign-On.

Confirm fingerprint installation and click yes.

Install related certificates.

The vCenter configuration service has been installed.

4. Install vcenter

After the vCenter Singnle-On and vCenter list services are installed, we choose to officially install vcenter. As follows:

You need to enter the vcenter license password based on your purchase. Enter one here.

The license key can be entered or not lost. If you do not enter the license key, it runs in evaluation mode (with all functions, the evaluation mode is valid for 60 days ).

VcenterIs the support of the SQL Server database. Here we directly use the SQL Server 2008 Express database that comes with vcenter. Supported by the Express DatabaseThere are no more than five hosts.

For the use of SQL server, you can refer to this Article "mud: SQL Server 2005 database installation", or this connection: http://www.ilanni.com /? S = sqlserver

The sso administrator username remains the default, and the sso administrator password is the password we entered when we started installing Sign-On.

Confirm the installation fingerprint.

The installation of vcenter has been completed.

Vi. Configure vcenter

After vcenter is installed, we can connect to vcenter on any machine with vsphere installed as follows:

The IP address in the figure is the vcenter IP address, and the user name and password areThe user name and password used to install Sign-On.

After entering vcenter, select create data center.

Select the data center you just added.

Select "add host ".

In, enter the esxi IP address, user name, and password.

Select "yes" as the verification fingerprint.

Enter the license.

The "lock mode" is disabled by default ".

Select the data center to which esxi is added. If there are multiple data centers (that is, multiple vcenter), you can select.

We can see that the first esxi has been added to vcenter.

Next we can create a VM or directly import an existing VM template.

VII. view the vcenter Database

You can also check the vcenter database as follows:

We can see that vcenter has created a VIM_VCDB database during installation.

Note: The above connection to the SQL Server 2008 Express database is windows verification method.

If you want to use the SQL Server authentication method, you need to first modify the sa user password, or create a user, and then authorize it.

Here, we directly use the sa user to change the sa user password. When the SQL Server 2008 Express database is installed in vcenter by default, we do not know the sa user password, so we need to modify the sa user password. As follows:

After the sa user password is changed, we need to modify the registry key value.

On my testing machine, the key value is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft SQL Server \ MSSQL10_50.VIM_SQLEXP \ MSSQLServer \ LoginMode.

1 indicates that Windows authentication is used.

2 indicates that hybrid authentication is used.

Now we only need to change the key value of LoginMode to 2, and then restart the SQL Server service to log on to the database using the sa account.

8. Retrieve the administrator@vsphere.local Password

If we forget the vcenter login user and password, we can use C: \ Program Files \ VMware \ Infrastructure \ Orchestrator \Vco. propertiesThe configuration file is used to retrieve the logon user. As follows:

Of course, we can also view the relevant logs, such

C: \ Program Files \ VMware \ Infrastructure \ Orchestrator \ app-server \ logs \ post_installer_action file.

To retrieve the logon password, you can useVdcadmintoolTool retrieval. As follows:

Cd C: \ "Program Files" \ VMware \ Infrastructure \ VMware \ CIS \ vmdird

Vdcadmintool.exe

Enter 3 and press Enter. The Account DN is displayed. Enter the following information:Cn = Administrator, cn = users, dc = vSphere, dc = local

As follows:

Note: the yellow part marked in the figure is the user's latest logon password.

For the above modification method, refer to this connection:
