One, brush and canvas texture effect

The 1.SAI brush and canvas texture works fine, but there are too few options. In fact, these can be customized.

With the Sai interface open, you can see three options: brush shape, brush texture, and paper texture. These three options have the corresponding strength value can be selected, the paper texture is more than one can choose the magnification of texture scaling.

Figure 1

2. Open the folder where the Sai application resides, and you can see four folders: Elemap, Blotmap, Brushtex, Papertex. Elemap and Blotmap corresponding to the brush shape options, Brushtex corresponding to the brush texture options, Papertex corresponding to the paper texture options.

Figure 2

3.blotmap, Brushtex, Papertex these three folders in the picture specifications are: BMP format, grayscale (even if there are colors will be shown as grayscale), and only accept two sizes: 512x512, 256x256, otherwise can not be displayed.

Figure 3

4. The next thing you need to know is the suffix. conf file, which is a list file of related functions, the same, brushform.conf, corresponding to the brush shape options, brushtex.conf corresponding to the brush texture options; papertex.conf corresponds to the paper texture options. Can be opened with TXT.

Figure 4

5. Knowing the above knowledge, you can start customizing your work. First put the image you want to add in the folder you want.

Figure 5-1

Then go back to the same folder as the SAI application and locate the appropriate conf file and open it with the TXT text document. In the same format, add the file name of the original picture to the desired location, including the suffix name, and then save the closure.

Figure 5-2

When you open Sai again, you can use the appropriate custom content.

Figure 5-3

I will elaborate on the issue of the Elemap folder in the next tutorial.

We have made the use of textures very clear in the last lesson. But there's a Elemap folder in four folders that isn't mentioned, so this time we'll explain the customization of the Elemap folder in detail.

1. Open the folder where Sai is located and locate the Elemap folder.

Figure 1

2. Open the Elemap folder, which stores the most direct stroke shape. It can accept the picture specification is 63x63 pixel, BMP format black and white, the other colors in the picture will not be displayed (the other colors in the image of the ring and the cross is used to indicate the direction of the brush and the total size, will not have other effects). The picture cannot be displayed because it cannot exceed the default 11.8k.

Figure 2

3. Open Sai, find the section in the tool panel corresponding to the Elemap folder, this part is the brush shape.

Figure 3

4. If you want to change the brushes in the Elemap folder, you need to use Photoshop. Create a new 63x63 pixel diagram, and then use the "pencil" feature in PS to draw the brush you want.

Figure 4

5. Be careful not to draw too complex brush shapes. For the convenience of example, I will point to 2 levels of the point bar!

Figure 5

6. Save the picture as BMP format, put it into the Elemap folder, in order to facilitate the example, I named this brush as "k.bmp". Then open brushform.conf and drop down the list, and you'll see the beginning of "2,elemap", which is the part of the corresponding Elemap folder. Add brush information in the same way, save and close.

Figure 6

7. Then open sai, we can use the corresponding brush, the effect of the following figure:

Figure 7

8.SAI brushes have a feature, that is, the brush is always following the direction of the cursor to change the direction of the brush, the equivalent of Photoshop brush settings.

Figure 8

9. We can use the arrow brushes in Photoshop to draw different effects for comparison, Sai is not as comprehensive as Photoshop. Also, Sai cannot adjust the spacing between brushes like Photoshop, as we said in Tutorial 4.

Figure 9

Knowing these, we can begin to draw the work. As with the previous tutorial, this time, the rest of the content will be done directly in Sai, except for the custom brush shape. This time I intend to draw a painting of the characters, and I want to make this painting has the effect of painting, that is, highlighting strokes and the texture of the picture, focusing on the light and color of the generalization, not demanding details of the in-depth. (originally this picture has the reference photograph, but now cannot find ...).

10. First customize the brush. This time I do a relatively strong brush, you can draw a natural effect, mainly by using pencil tool in Photoshop + extended effect + brush spacing to achieve.

Figure 10

11. In the Sai Tool panel, the new tool, here is recommended to use the "pen" and "Water color marker" These two have more set the function of the brush tool.

Figure 11

12. Add the corresponding texture effect to the brush. According to the needs of the screen, make several suitable brushes, and then like Tutorial 6, one by one store well. Here is a list of the textures and brush shapes I use for your reference.

Figure 12-1

The tool panel is shown below:

Figure 12-2

13. In order to draw the effect of the oil painting, this time I set a few brush shape (the following figure), of course, these shapes can also be changed according to the situation at any time.

1. In the final tutorial, I'll talk about the storage function of the tool. Back in the Sai folder, we can see the Toolink and Toolnrm two folders, which are used to store the vector tools panel and the common Tools panel respectively. Because the vector tool I already explained in tutorial 3, its function is very limited, plus tool storage method is exactly the same, here only take toolnrm examples.

Figure 1

2. Open the Toolnrm folder and you can see some of the INI files named in numbers. The number of these files is the number of preset squares for each tool in the corresponding toolbar (from left to right, top to bottom).

Figure 2

3. Double-click to open, you can see the following information. The location, name, size, texture, etc. of the tool are documented here. This means that it can be modified.

Figure 3

4. If this is not a good understanding, I can cite an example. First look at the original list of tools.

Figure 4

5. Close Sai. Open the Toolnrm folder and move a part of the tool elsewhere.

Figure 5

6. Then replace the "pencil" in the 00.ini message with "Pencil 2", save and close.

Figure 6

7. Open Sai Again, you can see the relevant changes in the tool panel.

Figure 7

8. In this way, it means that I can use the usual tools to create folders to classify storage, want to use the time to copy from the folder replacement, and then restart Sai on it. And this modification process does not need to be modified for conf file, more convenient. This approach is equivalent to Photoshop's "tool presets" feature.

Note: The default record in the Toolnrm folder is always the last Sai shutdown information. Therefore, if you want to do something, you must pay attention to the SAI when the closure of the time.

Of course, if you want to classify the texture together, you can do more thoroughly: the Elemap, blotmap, brushtex, papertex and TOOLNRM folders, plus each conf are specifically set up folder classification, need to use when copying from the various folders, Just cover it up a few more.
