1. Start PowerPoint 2013 and open the document, select the Info option in the list on the left of the File window, click the Check for Issues button in the middle pane, and select the Check compatibility option in the Open list, as shown in Figure 1. The Microsoft Compatibility Checker checks the document and displays the results, as shown in Figure 2, and then clicks the OK button to close the dialog box.

2. Open the Save As dialog box to save the document and set the document type to PowerPoint 97-2003 presentation (*.ppt) in the Save as type Drop-down list, as shown in Figure 3. Click the Save button to close the Save As dialog box to save the document as a "*.ppt" format that can be opened by earlier versions of PowerPoint.

Attention
If you select the Check compatibility in PowerPoint 97-2003 format check box in the Microsoft PowerPoint Compatibility Checker dialog box, PowerPoint automatically checks for compatibility when you save the document. If there is a compatibility problem with the document, PowerPoint will pop up the Microsoft PowerPoint Compatibility Checker dialog box to display the results of the check.
3. Open a *.ppt document using PowerPoint 2013, select the Info option in the list on the left side of the File window, and click the Convert button in the middle pane, as shown in Figure 4. PowerPoint opens the Save As dialog box, where the user can save the current document in *.PPTX format, as shown in Figure 5.
