By default, Word documents that are edited by using Word 2010 are saved as Word 2010 documents in docx format. If Word 2010 users often need to exchange Word documents with Word2003 users, and Word2003 users cannot open docx documents directly without installing file format compatibility Packs, Word 2010 users can set their default save format to doc files.
To set the default save format to Doc file in Word 2010, the following steps are described:
Step 1th, open the Word 2010 document window, and click the file → options button, as shown in Figure 2009121205.

Step 2nd, in the Open Word Options dialog box, switch to the Save tab, in the Save document area, click the "Save file as this format" drop-down triangle button and select the word97-2003 document (*.doc) option in the Open Drop-down menu, and click OK. As shown in Figure 2009121206.

Tip: Change the default saved file format for Word 2010, and you can't change the formatting of a new Word document using the right-click menu, and the new Word document with the right-click menu remains. docx format.
