Because Fiber Ethernet has the WAN function, it is bound to promote the sale of LAN Fiber Ethernet devices to operators. Here we analyze how Fiber Ethernet breaks through its Development limitations. The Optical Fiber Ethernet product can use Ethernet devices to implement WAN communication services in the format of Ethernet data packets. This technology can be applied to any optical transmission network-optical fiber direct transmission, SDH and DWDM network transmission. At present, fiber-optic Ethernet can achieve 10 Mbps, Mbps, 1 Gbps, and other standard Ethernet speeds. When it reaches 10 Gbps, it will become a highlight of various businesses.

So far, the basic access port speed is 10 Mbit/s/100 Mbit/s, and the end user uses the network in 1 Mbit/s or 10 Mbit/s. Fiber-optic Ethernet is more cost-effective than other broadband connections (such as DS3), but so far it is only used in office buildings or buildings where fiber-optic cables have been laid. The strategic value of this new method using Ethernet is not limited to cheap access. It can be used for both access networks and local backbone networks in the service supplier network. It can be used only at Layer 2nd or as an effective way to implement layer 3rd businesses. It supports IP, IPX, and other traditional protocols. In addition, because it is still a LAN in nature, it can be used to help service providers manage the enterprise LAN and the interconnection between the enterprise LAN and other networks.

This article discusses how LAN switches and other devices in the service provider network evolve to support high-speed access services, and provides Man (man) based on Ethernet packets running in the wide-area optical fiber transmission network) business. In buildings with fiber optic cables, the cost of fiber-optic Ethernet connection is much lower than that of DS3 or high-speed ATM-Based Circuit connections. Network operators regard fiber-optic Ethernet as a low-cost technology that can be used to connect to various convergence points. The planned Optical Fiber Ethernet MAN Service will face fierce competition with the existing ATM, frame relay, or SMDS networks.

Based on the 802.1qVLAN standard, it is expected to develop the Optical Fiber Ethernet virtual private network function. The proposal on this standard has been re-discussed to increase the number of VLAN sectors. As a result, the number of VPNs will increase from several thousand to several 100,000. Fiber-optic Ethernet VPN may be classified into MAN fields in a wide range.

Currently and in the plan, the optical fiber Ethernet switch is based on layer-7 LAN switches, layer-7 LAN switches, SONET devices, and DWDM. Some companies are planning to launch fiber-optic Ethernet switches designed for network operators. These switches have multiple features that can ensure service quality as much as possible (such as packet classification and congestion management ). All future products may require the following key technologies and Performance: high reliability, high port density, service quality assurance, and other functions.

WAN Ethernet solution

Recently, some LAN equipment manufacturers have begun to launch new products to incorporate the advantages of Ethernet switches into the WAN field. Network operators have been using Ethernet switches for their networks for many years. Likewise, Ethernet switches use fiber optic interfaces overnight. The optical fiber LAN product has a long-distance transmission function, which is sufficient to transmit signals to the nearest POP node of the network operator.

Fiber-optic Ethernet is a major innovation. The price of Ethernet products is expected to be lower than that of ATM products and routers. Therefore, it will greatly affect network operators in purchasing other network devices. Some carriers have successively launched Ethernet-based optical fiber services. For network operators dedicated to the optical fiber access field, there is even a new name called FLEC.

Client Overview

There are many manufacturers engaged in device sales in this field. So far, apart from beidian's RPR solution, all other services are carried out on Enterprise LAN switches. Because Fiber Ethernet has the WAN function, it is bound to promote the sale of LAN Fiber Ethernet devices to operators. Up to now, fiber optic Ethernet client devices can only access this new technology on clients with interfaces. This interface is in the form of an Ethernet Optical network interface card (NIC) and can be connected to an enterprise router or vswitch. Currently, the carrier advocates that the network card is directly connected to the second layer Ethernet switch of the enterprise. However, for Internet access, enterprises are more inclined to use routers because these enterprises want to implement security assurance through firewalls.

Another optional configuration scheme is expected, that is, no firewall or router is configured on the client. According to this configuration scheme, the optical fiber Ethernet interface will be directly connected to the second-layer enterprise switch, and the router and firewall will be configured on the carrier side. As a result, the carrier will be able to provide manageable routers to ensure business security. This system will be very attractive to small and medium-sized enterprises, joint enterprises, and B2B e-commerce networks, which are generally not used by large enterprises.

Restrictions

The flexibility and relatively low price of fiber-optic Ethernet make it very popular. However, there is a factor that limits its direct impact, that is, there are very few buildings or buildings with fiber cables laid by operators. Optical fiber is an indispensable component of Optical Fiber Ethernet. Therefore, the optical fiber Ethernet service can only be provided in a place where the optical fiber is deployed or where new optical fiber is laid quickly and cheaply.

In the central area of a big city, network operators only deploy optical fibers in approximately 8-10% of buildings. Fortunately, the restriction on Optical Fiber Ethernet only applies to end-user services. Another major market of fiber-optic Ethernet is in the operator's network. Fiber-Optic Ethernet can be used to form the operator's local backbone network, interconnect network or DSL network. The strict limits on the use of optical fiber in Fiber Ethernet will gradually become blurred, because the hybrid configuration of Fiber Ethernet to the expansion of Adjacent Areas and the expansion of high-speed DSL to various enterprises is likely to happen.
