The pace of the city is getting faster and faster, and we face new changes every day. No industry can reflect this point better than the enterprise IT industry. As evolution is the natural property of science and technology, enterprises have to continue to develop to meet growing business needs. Data center network cabling is also worth noting.

Data center network cabling is the cornerstone to support business needs. We will encounter numerous designs and solutions during the Cabling Process. This article aims to help you decide the cabling solution that best suits your IDC.

1. Proper Wiring Design

Efficient cabling requires meticulous planning and design. In the standard TIA-942 of the data center, five key functional areas are defined in the data center:

Access Room Entrance Room (ER)-entry for device access to the data center.

Main Distribution Area (MDA)-This Area prevents devices such as routers, LAN and SAN switches.

Horizontal Distribution Area (HDA)-Inter-Communication

Region Distribution Zone Distribution Area (ZDA) (optional)-All data center network cabling and switch integration points.

Equipment Distribution Area (EDA)-a main server Area with racks and cabinets.

There are two main types of data center network wiring: Main Line wiring and horizontal wiring. Horizontal wiring supports mechanical connection, jumper, and horizontal cross-connection with HDA, and can also be connected to ZDA or EDA. Horizontal cabling can be optical fiber cables, copper cables, or both. Trunk line wiring simplifies the design of data center network wiring, supports jumper, mechanical connection, and cross-connection from the main area to different areas of the data center, which is of great benefit to management. However, in the distributed data center topology, trunk lines must support multiple access challenges.

ER> MDA> HDA> ZDA> EDA

In addition to the above two types, the possible wiring is regional wiring. In some ways, you can integrate all the connections in the data center into a region. You can connect block or plug-in board. The problem is that this may lead to a large number of migration steps and additional costs, resulting in an increase in costs. In addition, it is difficult to design cabling in the Cross-connector channel.

Cabling path

The design path must always be maintained and changed. The solution must be tracked and resolved in the air without affecting the product workshop. For the path, wiring at the top of the Cabinet is generally recommended. However, the wiring path on the top of the cabinet may affect the hot exit and distribution.

If you want to deploy all the cables at the top of the cabinet, you have to integrate all the cables into a switch rack. Ensure that the rack end or consolidation point is properly designed. This can be done by evaluating the necessity of optical fiber cabling and copper cabling and choosing the right connector and terminator.

2. Spatial Planning

For space planning, many enterprises consider the Central patching Area), or use independent Switch Blades for each server cabinet. The former is more desirable because it can run all optical fiber or copper cables from the core HDA and EDA to the center patching area. Center patching removes the complexity of hardware changes and reduces physical access to the system. This solution is perfect if your industry focuses on consistency and security issues. You can also add a smart patch for the patch area to automatically monitor and track the patch area to increase security. In addition, all purchased ports can be used. VLANs can also be used to separate your networks.

If you select an independent switch blade for each server Cabinet, the resources may not be fully utilized. If the server Nic is not used, the port becomes inefficient and costly. For example, if you put a server with only six servers and each cabinet with only two Connections uses a 48-port blade, the other 36 ports and their maintenance will be wasted. However, with the center patching area, additional ports can also be used elsewhere in the network.

Another option is to connect all server cabinets and switch cabinets in one column to a separate encapsulation area, rather than a central area. In this way, you can move the central connection from the main distribution area to the encapsulated area. If you are a service provider, this may be your appetite.

3. Media Selection

The difficulty lies in the details. It is necessary to review the cable type again-copper, multimode, or single-mode optical fiber. The terminator required for each connection is also evaluated. The demand for hardware in the data center is growing, and the demand for energy consumption and cooling is also the case. You have to consider these factors. If you are negligent, the electromagnetic noise emitted from external crosstalk cables is a problem.

The network cabling of data centers is based on simple and tangle details and is often ignored. Everyone in the data center knows that copper cables are easy to bend and affect transmission. Can a good wiring design avoid this? Of course! But does anyone pay attention to it? That's too little.
