Hard Disk prices are not expensive, data is priceless, and it is easy to encounter various problems after a long working period-a slight logical error may occur, serious bad sectors may occur, or even a complete crash, leading to data loss. To avoid this problem, the current hard disks all have the S. M. A. R. T. Technology, but do you fully understand and make good use of this function? Not yet? It doesn't matter. There is a brand new hard disk monitoring solution here, saving you no worries about your hard disk.
We can send an "undercover" that understands Chinese characters to the hard disk to monitor the hard disk status at any time. Its name is ActiveSMART. It mainly uses the S. M. A. R. T. Function of the hard disk to report the status of the hard disk to you in real time in several different monitoring modes.
Simple arrangement of undercover tasks
We can easily set the function parameters of ActiveSMART (1). The first is the automatic detection interval. The biggest feature of ActiveSMART is that it can detect the hard disk status at any time, which is why we choose it. However, do not set it too frequently to avoid affecting the normal use of other programs during detection.
To enable automatic detection of hard disks at any time, you can enable the "Start detection during Windows Startup" option, and disable the "exit if an error is detected" option, because after ActiveSMART exits, it cannot detect the hard disk at any time. In addition, we can enable the log function of ActiveSMART so that we can view the latest hard disk detection records later.
One of the undercover tasks: Find out the hard drive
On the first "disk information" tab, we can view detailed information about each hard disk in the system, including the hard disk model, capacity, vendor, Ultra DMA mode, and whether S is enabled. m. a. r. t. function. Click the "advanced information" button on the right of the hard drive information to view more detailed hard drive information (2). the advanced information can also be saved in a text file. In addition, we can see all the partitions on the hard disk in the volume list, as well as the drive letter and Tag Name of each partition. Click the partition name, And you can view the file system type, partition size, and remaining space used by each partition at the bottom, there is also a "disk space usage" statistical percentage. As a result, isn't the hard drive's Historical Archives clear at a glance?
Undercover Task 2: Tracking anytime, anywhere
The second "SMART Information" tab is the main function of ActiveSMART (3). Check every SMART attribute of the hard disk. The second column in this list is called "ultimate hard drive life date". When ActiveSMART detects a property item on the hard drive, A date will appear in the corresponding column of the Project. Although the time is not necessarily accurate, we still need to back up the data, just in case.
Active-SMART can automatically issue a warning when detecting changes to the SMART attribute of the hard disk. In this alarm setting, we can enable ActiveSMART to warn users when the attribute value changes, warnings can be sent through pop-up messages, emails, and network messages. The first item is suitable for local monitoring, and the last two items are suitable for remote monitoring of Hard Disk status through the network.
In addition to setting a warning for each property, ActiveSMART can also issue a warning through global settings, and click "drive attribute button" on the right of the SMART property ", you can open a global settings window (4 ). In this window, we can set a global warning method for each hard disk. The warning method is also described in the above three methods. A temperature warning option is also available for hard disks that support temperature measurement.
It should be noted that the temperature value of the hard disk alarm should not be set too low, because the current high-speed hard disk heating is large, set the appropriate alarm temperature to avoid frequent alarms by ActiveSMART.
Good, ActiveSMART is a very competent "undercover ". However, it should be noted that the "undercover" arrangement does not mean everything is fine. It is more important to develop good habits to work faithfully for us on hard disks.

Knowledge
S. M. A. R. T. is short for Self-Monitoring Analysis and Reporting Technology. It can monitor the Disk Head Unit, hard disk temperature, disk surface media, motor, drive system, hard disk internal circuit, and so on, analyze and predict possible problems of the hard disk in a timely manner.
We can see and enable this function in the hard disk settings of the motherboard CMOS, but this function can only be detected at each boot, rather than real-time monitoring. For those who like overclock or frequently install software for testing, the hard disk usage is high, and the chance of problems is even greater. Therefore, we need real-time hard disk monitoring tools.
