Set a Super Terminal Management Switch through serial port connection

A vswitch is the transportation hub of the campus network system. Its management features determine the overall performance of the campus network. Some Network Management switches do not have default IP addresses, so they cannot be managed through Telnet or Web during initial configuration. At this time, we need to manage the switch through the serial port.

1. Connect vswitches and PCs

First, you need to connect the PC and the vswitch to manage them. A serial port cable is attached to all vswitches for local management. First, insert one end of the serial port cable into the Console port on the back of the switch, and screw the screw to prevent poor contact. The other end of the serial cable is inserted on the serial port of the common PC. remember whether the cable is inserted on the COM1 or COM2 port, which will be used later.

2. Set "Super Terminal"

After the connection, connect the vswitch to the computer and start the computer. Windows 98/Me/2000 provides the "Super Terminal" service. If not, you can add it in the "communication" group in "Add/delete programs. You can also use other terminal simulation programs that comply with the VTY100 terminal standards.

When you run the "Super Terminal" for the first time, the system uses a Modem to connect to the system. You are required to enter the connected area code and enter either of them. If the Modem is not installed on your computer, the system will prompt "must install the Modem before connection. Do you want to install it now ?", Click [No] Here.

After the program runs, you will be prompted to create a new connection name. Here we enter "Switch ". After you click the [OK] button, a window appears asking you to select the port used for connection. Be sure to select the serial number of your connected PC. If you are not sure, try "Serial Port 1" and "Serial Port 2" respectively.

After the serial port number, click the [OK] button to display a comport attribute window with configuration parameters such as baud rate, data bit, parity check, stop bit, and traffic control. How can we set so many parameters? It doesn't matter. You just need to click the [Restore Default Value] button to call the most conservative parameter settings. The default parameters can be used in most connection conditions, so that you do not have to spend any time studying these parameters.

After the connection parameters are set, the program will automatically execute the command to connect to the vswitch. Success! How is the interface blank? Don't worry. Press the Enter key to see the true face of the switch management main interface.

From now on, you have to forget the existence of the mouse, and all the control should be implemented through the keyboard. However, the operation is very simple: Use the Enter key to execute the command, use the "Tab" key or the arrow key to move in the option, and use the space key, keyboard primary key, and number key to change a parameter. Before logging on to the operating system, you must enter the administrator username and password. The default user names of most device administrators are named by meaningful English words such as "Admin" and "Super. Some vswitches have initial passwords, while others do not.
