Set typesetting style--word 2007 book Layout Complete Handbook (ii)

A style is a collection of character formats and paragraph formats that you can use to quickly change the appearance of text.

Style is the core of book typesetting, and setting styles correctly can greatly improve productivity. In the book typesetting, many of the document objects in the book need to use the same font, paragraph, border and other formats, such as the title of the article, chapter title, body content and so on. It is not only troublesome but also easy to make mistakes if you use manual formatting to repeat the complex and identical document objects in the book.

1. Title Style

In the book typesetting, the role of the title is very important. In Word 2007, in addition to using the various styles built into the system, you can easily set personalized styles or modify the built-in styles. In this example, you will customize three different types of heading styles, which are chapter headings (applied to one or two, third-numbered headings, section headings (applied to 1, 2, 3, etc.) and section headings (applied to (1), (2), (3) and other numbered headings), the title of the article is directly selected with the built-in "heading" style.

The overall title setting is simple, after you enter the total title, click the Drop-down button to the right of style in the toolbar, and then select Title in the Drop-down list.

The actions for customizing the heading styles are as follows:

Click the Drop-down button on the right side of style in the toolbar and select Add to open the Create new style based on Formatting dialog box, as shown in Figure 1.

First enter the title style name "chapter title" in the Name box, then select paragraph in the Style type Drop-down list, select the Normal style in the base style Drop-down list box, and select the Normal style in the follow Paragraph style drop-down list box. Then set the font format (font, size, font style, color, and so on) or click the Format button to open the Font Formatting dialog box for more font formatting, and also open the Paragraph Formatting dialog box for paragraph formatting, as shown in Figure 2. Select the Widow/Orphan control check box in the page break and wrap tab in the Paragraph dialog box to prevent Word from printing the end of a paragraph at the top of the page or printing the first line of a paragraph at the bottom of the page. If you want each chapter content to be on the same page as the previous chapter, you can select the page before paragraph check box so that Word 2007 automatically adds a page break to each chapter title when you apply the chapter title style.

When the settings are complete, click OK to return to the previous dialog box.

If the title of the article in the book is "1th Chapter article title", "chapter 2nd article title" ... The form is used regularly. In this case, you should use the multilevel numbering feature in the heading style to automatically number the headings.

To do this, click the Format button in the Add Style dialog box, select Numbering from the pop-up menu, and open the Numbering and Bullets dialog box.

Select a number and click the Define new numbering style button to open its dialog box, as shown in Figure 3, select a numbering style such as "1, 2, 3, ..." , enter chapter 1th in number format, set alignment to left, and click the two OK button to return to the first dialog box.

If the "new document based on this template" radio button is selected, the chapter title style is added to the template of the active document so that the style can be used for all new documents that are based on the template. If the only use this document radio button is selected, it is used only for the current document. The Add to Quick Style list check box should be selected to make it easy to apply this style quickly in future editing operations. When all of the settings are finished, click the OK button.

The section title, subsection heading style setting can be done in this way, and you don't have to say more.

2. Other styles

In addition to the heading style, there are some styles that need to be set, which can be modeled after the above process. such as body style, hint style, and so on.

The text in the book is generally used in the song body 5th Word to arrange, and in the first line of the text must be indented two characters position. Because there is exactly one style in the built-in style of Word 2007 that fits the requirements, the body style name is "body (indent 2 words in the first line)", so we don't have to create a new body style, as long as you apply this body style directly to the body editing operation or to other style paragraph settings.

In books, it is often noted that some key content is described in a different font than the body text. You can also set the hint to a style for ease of action.
