Because the CD-audio mode of the optical drive in Microsoft's Windows XP operating system is set to digital audio by default, if you do not have an analog audio output line installed on the optical drive, it is likely to cause the CD disc to be played under Windows XP operating systems. If you want to troubleshoot a sound that only outputs from the sound card and cannot be exported from the optical drive's audio output hole, the steps are as follows:
Step 1
Right click on "My Computer", in the pop-up menu select "Properties", open the System Properties window, click the "Hardware" tab, click the "Device Manager" button, open the Device Manager window;
Step 2
Open the optical Drive child node, right click on the optical drive device, select the "Properties" item in the pop-up menu, open the Optical Drive Properties window, and click the "Properties" tab to remove the check before the option "Enable digital CD audio for this CD-ROM device";
Step 3
Click "start → program → attachment → entertainment" and open "Windows Media Player" by clicking the mouse in turn. Click the Tools menu, select Options, open the Media Player's Options window, click the Devices tab, select your optical drive device in the list of devices, and then click the Properties button to open the Optical Drive Properties window;
Step 4
Select "Simulate" in the playback options, and then click "OK" to save the exit and restart the computer.
