The CIH virus has put everyone in fear and caused great waves. In the past, various viruses could only damage hard disk data, but CIH could intrude into Flash BIOS on the main board and destroy its content to decommission the main board. The CIH Lesson tells us not to underestimate the damage to hardware caused by viruses. Many people are beginning to worry: CIH is becoming increasingly fierce, and will there be more hardware-damaging viruses? In fact, I analyzed it. The "means" of virus damage to hardware is similar to the following: 1. damage the monitor As we all know, each monitor has its own bandwidth, highest resolution, and field frequency. Early Production of 14 inch color display, bandwidth is only about 35-45 MHz, corresponding to the highest resolution of 1024x768 @ 60Hz field frequency; current 14 inch color display, bandwidth mostly 60 MHz, the maximum resolution is 1024 × 768 @ 75Hz field frequency. The maximum resolution is 15 inch × 110 @ 85Hz field frequency for a 1280 Color Display (high-grade) with a bandwidth of 1024 MHz. You can check the monitor instruction, which includes the field frequency and the highest resolution. If one of them exceeds the upper limit, a screen will appear, and the display will be burned out if it is serious. Viruses can tamper with the display parameters to damage the display (for example, change the resolution and field frequency to the most advanced level supported by the video card ). Although the new type of display has DDC standardization and system connection, it is not difficult for viruses to gain ground. Therefore, if you find that the screen appears during use, you need to immediately turn off the power of the monitor, and then enter safe mode to find the reason. 2. Extra-high frequency, increased voltage damage CPU, graphics card, memory, etc. At present, the new motherboard uses more and more "soft jumpers", which just gives the virus a chance. The so-called "soft jumper" means that the CPU voltage, external frequency, and frequency doubling can be changed in the BIOS. You can modify the BIOS parameters to increase the CPU voltage so that the virus is overheated and burned out, or increase the external frequency of the CPU, so that the CPU, graphics card, memory and other peripherals are overloaded and overheated. The precursor to such events is a crash. Therefore, if you find that the machine often crashes, you need to go to CMOS to check whether the above parameters have been changed. Fortunately, many mainboards currently have the CPU temperature monitoring function. After the temperature is exceeded, the system immediately reduces the frequency of alarms, which can basically prevent hardware burning. 3. Excessive "Explicit frequency" damages the video card At present, many medium-and high-grade graphics cards can manually change the frequency of their chips, and the method is simpler: Change in the Windows registry. The virus changes the "Explicit frequency", and the video card is easy to burn out when it is overloaded. This kind of event is also a precursor to a crash. Therefore, do not ignore the "Explicit frequency" check when the server crashes. There is also a way to reduce the possibility of burning a video card, that is ...... (What? You have installed two fans !?) 4. damage the optical drive The optical head in the optical drive will increase the laser emission power when the signal is not received, so that the long-running will be extremely unfavorable to the optical drive. Some people do experiments, so that the normal optical drive keeps reading a lot of scratches, the signal of the disc is weak, 28 hours later, the optical drive will be finished. Virus allows the bald head to go to the edge of the disk without a signal area to read the disk without stopping. As a result, the bald head cannot read the signal, and the transmission power is increased continuously. In a few days, the optical drive will require "No Disc. Therefore, pay attention to the flashing status of the optical drive, and determine whether the optical drive works properly. 5. damage the Flash BIOS of the motherboard and video card This is how the current CIH virus destroys the motherboard. The virus uses garbled characters to overwrite the BIOS content so that the machine cannot start. However, many boards now have Flash BIOS write protection jumpers, which can effectively prevent CIH viruses from damaging the motherboard. However, do not forget that many graphics cards also have Flash BIOS. A virus that may damage the graphics card BIOS may occur one day. So it is better to be careful. There is no specific medicine. 6. damage the hard disk As we all know, partition and advanced formatting have no damage to the hard disk, but low-level formatting has a great impact on the hard disk's life. It is said that the hard disk will be decommissioned after 10 low-level formatting. If a virus exists, it will not stop formatting the zero track of the hard disk (up to a few seconds for 10 times !), 0 broken and then 1 ...... Your hard disk capacity will be 1.1 points (this is not small !) It is eroded, and 0, 1, 2 ...... If you want to use the hard disk again, you have to reset the start track in the BIOS, and then perform low-level formatting, which is very troublesome. In fact, this virus has a very simple and effective prevention method, that is, to set the Boot SectorVirus Protection (Boot virus write Protection) in BIOS to Enable ). I have done some experiments. when I turn on the above switch, I use various low-level formatting software (including self-contained in BIOS) to perform low-level hard drive, the BIOS will trigger an alarm (reporting that a program attempts to rewrite the boot zone and asking if it will continue), and pressing N can prevent it. You need to know that the BIOS program is in charge of the highest control of the system, and there should be nothing to break through its defense line (you press Y is another thing ). If you find the above situation, Reset it quickly and then conduct anti-virus. However, if you encounter this situation when installing * software such as Win 98 or System Commander, you will not have to worry about it, when installing these software, you must rewrite the boot area. However, it is recommended that you disable write protection before installing these software. Otherwise, it is prone to crashes! 7. Waste of ink from inkjet printers The ink jet printer nozzle is particularly prone to blockage. For this reason, the printer company has invented the "cleaning nozzle" function dedicated to wasting ink, that is, to let a large amount of ink rushed out of the nozzle, clear debris. This function can be implemented using software control, so the virus calls this function again and again without knowing it, but you can't hear it from the printer. When you find out, a lot of ink has been wasted. The only way to prevent this virus is ...... Print the printer when no printer is needed. In fact, as long as you pay attention to the pattern lamp on the printer, it is usually shining when cleaning the nozzle. In addition, you need to listen carefully to its inception.
