Seven major wireless router common fault solutions, now every household has their own computer, understand the wireless router common faults, and their related wireless router common fault solutions, wireless Security Settings make it easier for you to understand the wonderful world of the Internet.

Compared with hubs and vswitches, vrouters may be a bit unfamiliar to everyone. Because many small local networks use proxy servers or software routing, dedicated hardware routers are rarely used. However, with the rapid development of LAN, the application of routers in LAN is also increasing, and various router faults are also followed.

From the previous introduction, we learned that routers and computers are also composed of hardware and software. Of course, problems may occur in hardware or software. This may be because many administrators are not familiar with or understand vrouters, and a large part of the faults occur on the software. I have summarized the following Fault categories to facilitate troubleshooting for readers.

1) wireless router common faults hardware faults

Vro Hardware includes RAM/DRAM, NVRAM, FLASH, ROM, CPU, various ports, and motherboard and power supply. Hardware faults can be seen from the LED indicator. For example, the POWER module has a green PWR or POWER status indicator. When the indicator is on, the power supply works properly.

ONLINE and OFFLINE indicators and TX and RX indicators on the interface module. The Rx indicator Green indicates that the port is receiving data packets; if it is orange, it indicates that the traffic control data packets are being received. If the Tx indicator is green, the port is sending data packets; if it is orange, the traffic control data packets are being sent. Different routers have different indicators to indicate different meanings, so you 'd better read the instructions first.

Hardware faults can also be found in the boot log or during configuration. Because the router will first perform a hardware power-on self-check during startup, run the hardware detection program in ROM to check whether each component works normally. Software initialization starts after hardware detection.

If the router detects a hardware fault at startup, it will be recorded in the system startup log for future reference. If the system keeps reporting an error when you enter a port configuration during vro configuration, it may be a port problem. In addition, we also need to build a router operating environment, such as anti-ray grounding and stable power supply, indoor temperature, indoor humidity, anti-electromagnetic interference, anti-static, and so on, to eliminate various potential fault risks.

2) wireless router common fault system loss

This refers to IOSInternetwork Operating System), which is the basis for all configurations and operations of the router-the Operating System. It is stored in FLASH, sometimes due to operation errors or other unexpected reasons such as: sudden power failure), resulting in the loss of IOS in FLASH, causing the router to fail to start normally.

In this case, you can also use the backup operating system software stored in the ROM. This backup IOS is generally a little lower than the IOS version in FLASH, but it is sufficient for the router to start and work. To make the router work normally, you must download the new IOS to FLASH. If the FLASH space is large enough, you can save multiple IOS software and select the version of the system to use. In order to quickly recover after such a fault occurs, it is best to save the IOS software in a secure server for urgent use.

3) Common Faults and system defects of wireless routers

Like WINDOWS systems often suffer from viruses and crash, IOS system defects can also paralyze routers. For example, the red code has restarted some well-known routers. IOS also has security flaws. If you do not upgrade your vro in time, you may use your vro as your target. With the development of routers, some routers now have the ability to automatically defend against attacks, such as DOS attacks and password guesses.

The system defects of IOS are generally replaced by the new IOS instead of patches. Once a system BUG is found, the vro manufacturer will promptly publish bugs, affected systems, and corresponding new IOS software on the website. You must select a version suitable for your vro model.

Cisco once said it would use "zero-fault" high-end router software that can eliminate data or information loss failures caused by circuit or human factors, even if an error occurs, data packets can still be forwarded to prevent network faults, which reduces the burden on network management.

4) lost wireless router common fault Password

The vro password must be set in two places. We can see from the previous introduction that there are two basic access modes for a vro: user mode and management mode. For security, you need to set a password when entering these two modes. Although everyone knows that the password is the key to the Administrator's maximum permissions, some people will forget it. Some people even set a password that is too simple to be maliciously entered and modified by hackers. In fact, as long as we are careful, these low-level errors can be avoided.

In case of password loss, do not be afraid because the vro provides a password restoration method. In addition to two basic access mode user mode and management mode), The vro also has an RXBOOT mode, in which the vro password can be easily restored. Of course, the computer can only access the CONSOLE after establishing a super terminal connection through the CONSOLE port. Some routers provide a more convenient RESET key on the panel. You only need to RESET the key several times to restore the original password.

5) lost configuration files for common faults of wireless routers

This is also a frequent fault. First, let's take a look at the vro startup process:

◆ System hardware power-on self-check. Run the hardware detection program in the ROM to check whether each component works normally. After completing the hardware detection, proceed to the next step.

◆ Run the BootStrap boot program in ROM.

◆ Search for and load IOS system files

◆ After loading IOS, the system first searches for the saved Startup-Config file in NVRAM for system configuration. If the Startup-Config file exists in NVRAM, the file is transferred to RAM and executed one by one. Configure the interface address and route according to the commands in the configuration file. If the Startup-Config file cannot be successfully guided, the system enters the Setup mode and performs the initial configuration of the router in man-machine conversation mode.

◆ In other words, if the startup configuration file is lost, the system cannot configure the vro and complete the required functions. To restore the configuration file, you must first connect to the vro and copy the backup configuration on the computer to NVRAM using TFTP. Therefore, every time we modify the router configuration, we must back up the data.

6) configuration errors in common faults of wireless routers

When an administrator is a beginner in a vro, unexpected configuration errors may occur, such as Routing Protocol Configuration errors, IP address and mask errors, and ACL access control lists) error, the configuration is not saved after modification, and so on ,. For example, an access control list error is a typical configuration error.

ACL is a list of commands applied to an interface of a vro. This list tells the vro which data packet should be received and which must be disabled to filter data, this is an effective means to control network security. The writing of this list involves the source address, target address, and port number parameters.

The ACL is executed sequentially, and a default, invisible "deny any" statement is generated at the end of all ACLs to prohibit any communication. Therefore, when defining an ACL, there must be at least one PERMIT statement. Otherwise, this access list is meaningless.

Beginners tend to ignore this and cause network disconnection. They may also write errors to the port number used in the ACL, the order of ACL statements is inappropriate, or the WILDCARD may be confused with the mask) incorrect, interface application error OUT and IN obfuscation. Errors in these configurations are inevitable. The key is whether we can learn the correct configurations in these errors. Therefore, a good administrator must like to learn and study.

7) External Factors for common faults of wireless routers

This refers to a suspected vro fault caused by factors other than the vro. For example, the NIC fault of the Client Computer, incorrect cable connector, and cable crosstalk may cause data collision, network traffic increase, router load increase, and network slowdown or even paralysis. If the WAN port Line of the dial-up router fails, the dial-up cannot be performed.

The above categories may not be comprehensive. Unexpected problems may occur in the actual application process. I have gained some experience from my daily work and hope to share it with you. Compared with vswitches and hubs, vrouters have powerful system detection and logging functions. Most of the faults are described in detail, so you can easily find the cause of the fault through the log.

First, check for faults outside the vro and the external representation of the vro to effectively identify the hardware faults. For example, whether there is a client computer fault, whether there is a fault on an external line, whether there is a fault on the downlink switch, or whether there is a joint fault, whether the power module, port module, and other slots of the LED indicator has a Fault Indicator, whether the fan is rotated, whether the port connection is correct, and so on.

Although these external indicators sometimes do not provide specific fault causes, they can provide direct clues for us to quickly discover faults. For example, if the fan of a vro cannot work, first check whether the power cord is correctly connected to the power supply module that provides the power supply and check the power indicator.

If it is green, it indicates that the fan has a power connection, the fan module may not be correctly installed or damaged; if it is red, it indicates that at least one fan is faulty, check whether the fan is stuck. If the fan is stuck and the problem persists, change the fan. If the indicator light is not on, the power supply is disabled.

Second, check the system and startup logs. Connect the serial port of the computer to the CONSOLE port of the router using the dedicated cable provided by the router. If you start a vro, you can clearly see the vro Startup Process on the Super Terminal. During the hardware self-check process, if an error is found, an error message will be displayed on the terminal, and recorded in the startup log. If the router can find the IOS file and boot it successfully, it means there is no problem with IOS.

If the IOS software is not found in FLASH, you need to download IOS to FLASH again. The Startup Process of the vro shows that after the IOS boot is complete, the Startup-Config file is transferred to the memory. If you cannot find the startup configuration file from NVRAM, You need to download it again.

When the IOS and startup configuration files are lost, we can enter the Startup Mode in an emergency. This mode is commonly used for troubleshooting ), enable and call the configuration file from the NIC of the computer using the TFTP protocol to connect to the Ethernet Management port of the router using the cross line.

Check the configuration file again. The configuration file has two methods: Start the configuration file and activity configuration file. The former refers to the Startup file stored on NVRAM. After the vro is started, you can call this file to configure the vro. After the vro is shut down, it will not be lost. The Active configuration file is a configuration file that is running in the vro memory. After it is shut down or restarted, it will be lost.

If the router is just started, the two are the same. If the Administrator modifies the vro configuration and activates it in the memory, the two are different. Some systems also provide special commands to facilitate administrator checks. For example, in Enterasys XP-Edition, you can use the "diff startup" command to quickly find out the difference between the active configuration file and the startup configuration file. Many beginners often forget to save the Modified Active configuration file to the startup configuration file. When the vro does not enable the modified configuration after the next startup, the original configuration file is still used, so that it is suspected that the router has a certain fault.

Then, check the configuration content. This is the top priority of the router fault check, because the implementation of various router functions is implemented by a command in the configuration file. For example: interface Address Configuration, Route Protocol configuration, ACL Configuration, SNMP configuration, log configuration, QOS configuration, RMON configuration, NAT address translation, and port switch.

If a syntax error occurs in the configuration, the router will display an error prompt during initialization, and there will also be an error prompt during configuration in the CLICommand Line Interface command Line Interface, and will be recorded in system logs. During the configuration process, some statements must be placed behind some statements, so pay attention to the order of some statements, and pay attention to the use of annotation statements.

Finally, check the hardware. After a fault is identified in the above steps, if a hardware fault is found, you need to remove the host and replace the hardware parts. However, this process generally does not require you to do it yourself. It is often implemented by engineers of suppliers or vendors.

In addition to our own experience, product manuals, and vendor websites, we must quickly think of your product suppliers and contact them when encountering common faults of wireless routers that we cannot do, to help solve the problem quickly. The longer the time it takes, the longer the product subscription and replacement period will be.
