Seven steps to set up Wireless Networks

We are very familiar with the development of wireless networks. For 802.11n technical issues in wireless networks, we have summarized some common network skills here.

802.11n wireless networks are called high-speed networks. However, do you feel disappointed with such publicity? Many factors may affect the performance of the wireless N device. Let's take a look at it now.

The descriptions in promotional materials on the market are generally the most ideal data transmission. There are often deviations in actual situations. For example, in the promotion, the transmission rate of the wireless N network is set to 300 Mbps, but the actual use may only be 100 Mbps. You need to use other test programs to obtain the real value. Before solving the network speed problem, we must consider that the 802.11n standard is not a perfect version, and its products need to be improved.

Wireless network settings 1. Make sure you are using a new Adapter

If the maximum data transmission rate you see is 54Mbps or lower, first check whether the wireless N adapter is used or the old wireless G network card.

The old adapter can connect to the new N device, but the network performance and speed will be greatly reduced. Therefore, update the wireless device.

Wireless Network Settings 2. Verify that the hardware is from the same vendor

The reason why the Wi-Fi Alliance needs to authenticate wireless networking products is to ensure that all vendors develop devices simultaneously.

However, some features are proprietary to individual vendors and must be used together. In addition, wireless N devices may involve more interoperability issues.

One reason is that the official standards need to be improved is that suppliers are also launching trial products. You should use devices connected to the same vendor to avoid possible problems.

If you have not selected a preferred brand, try your own special wireless device. For example, if you want to use a wireless media extender to send photos, videos, and music to a TV from a computer, you may need to select devices of different brands. Therefore, you can find the product that suits you. After selecting a brand, you should also search for related comments online to make a trade-off.

Wireless Network Settings 3. Use WPA2 encryption only

The wireless N standard does not support WEP, so the connection speed with this type of encryption is limited to 54 Mbps, even with N standard devices.

In addition, the first WPA version cannot even provide maximum wireless performance on N networks. Therefore, you should use WPA2 encryption technology for individuals or enterprises.

If your adapter is an old product that only supports WEP encryption, check the vendor's webpage for driver updates to ensure that the Window is up to date. If this does not help, you can change to a new wireless network card.

Enter the IP address in the browser, log on to the routing configuration tool, and change the encryption settings. The default IP address and password should be listed in the document. Find the Wireless Settings and change the encryption type.

Wireless Network Settings 4. Change the default bandwidth to get an efficient network speed

If the speed does not exceed 130 Mbps after the above changes, you may need to change the default bandwidth. To reduce network interference with old WiFi devices, both the wireless N route and Access Point use the 20 MHz band.

Some of wireless N's performance has increased because it has been converted to a 40 MHz band, known as Channel Bonding ). Therefore, to reach the maximum speed, you must first change this default setting.

Open a browser and enter the IP address of the route to log on to the configuration tool on the Web interface to enable channel binding. Find the Wireless Settings and select the 40 MHz band. Finally, remember to save the changes.

Wireless Network Settings 5. Disable wireless G clients to improve N network performance

The wireless N network is backward compatible with the wireless G network and even the B standard network. However, when the old adapter is connected to the N network, the traffic in the network is managed separately. Such compatibility has a negative impact on speed and performance. Therefore, if your transmission speed does not reach the required level, make sure that the network is only available to wireless N clients. Log on to the configuration tool on the Web interface and change the wireless settings.

If you want to support wireless B/G customers, consider using the previous wireless G routing or access point. You can connect a wireless G route or access point to the backend of a new ingress. If you use channel binding on N routes, make sure they are all placed in non-overlapping channels: Or 11; or 1 or 11. Then confirm that only N standard connections are used for the new route.

Wireless Network Settings 6. Use the 40 MHz band only when the signal is strong

As mentioned above, the frequency band must be converted to 40 Mhz to make the wireless N network speed exceed 130 Mbps. However, if the network signal of all users is poor, you may reconsider whether to enable channel binding. Because it does reduce the user's signal.

Wireless Network Settings 7. Check network Interference

Like other wireless G networks, you should be concerned with common network interference problems, such as whether the channels used by neighboring Access Points interfere with the network; whether other radio and electronic devices interfere with the network.

However, the wireless N network may have another problem. Remember, if you change the default channel frequency from 20 to 40 MHz, the signal sending frequency range doubles.

If you use channel binding, you cannot use two channels in three typical non-overlapping channels. Therefore, you must confirm that you only need to use Channel 1 or 11 on all access points. Check the signal to see if there are other networks nearby, and then select a channel as needed.
