Network protocol is a supporting software and the basis for the implementation of the entire computer network application. Its design must follow certain methods. Generally, it can be considered in three parts, protocol structure design, Protocol mechanism design, and Protocol element design.

Computer network protocol Overview

Network protocols are rules and conventions that control information exchange between computers on network media. Network protocols are usually divided by the OSI reference model hierarchy. The OSI reference model is a network architecture reference model developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). It provides various network interconnection standards and consists of seven layers: the physical layer, data link layer, network layer, transmission layer, Session Layer, presentation layer, and application layer are often merged into the upper layer.

LAN protocol

The LAN protocol defines communication over multiple LAN media. Currently, common LAN protocols include NetBEUI, IPX/SPX, and their compatible protocols and TCP/IP.

NetBEUI user extension Interface

NetBEUI is a simple, efficient, fast, and rarely used communication protocol developed earlier. It is mainly applicable to earlier Microsoft operating systems, however, Microsoft regards Windows 9x and Windows snt as inherent.

Default protocol. NetBEUI is designed for a Single-segment network composed of several to dozens of machines. It does not have the routing function. Therefore, generally, it is used in small offices and Internet cafes with only a dozen machines for mutual access between computers in the LAN. If NetBEUI is set as the default protocol, it will save time and effort to transmit data through the LAN.

IPX/SPX Protocol

IPX is a Packet Exchange Protocol for interconnected networks. IPX features low overhead and high performance. It provides grouping addressing and routing selection. It supports all LAN topologies. Provides transparency and consistency for information transmission over the Internet. However, it cannot guarantee the reliable arrival of information. SPX is a sequence group exchange protocol. It works in connection mode and provides simple but powerful services.

TCP/IP protocol

The TCP/IP protocol is the Transmission Control Protocol/internetprotocol. TCP/IP is one of the earliest LAN protocols in the Open System Interconnection protocol. Its main purpose and advantage is that it is a standardized, routable Protocol and is currently the most widely used protocol. The TCP/IP protocol is a protocol family that contains hundreds of protocols and standard network applications. The TCP/IP protocol and IP protocol are two core protocols in the protocol family. IP provides a very reliable connectionless group delivery system at the network layer; TCP provides a connection-oriented reliable byte stream delivery service at the transport layer.
