As mentioned above, this project has a certain risk. Although there are only 50%, this 50% is a 100% risk for the project owner. The owners of such important projects will also be senior leaders who are very sensitive to the political aspect. In general, they will leave a path for themselves. If you understand the technology, it's slow. Isn't this increasing the technical risk? Who will listen to so many manufacturers? Does that increase the difficulty of communication? It also increases the difficulty of integration at least! In this way, the technical risk has increased from 50% to 75%, and the risk of being ruined has increased!

You are right. From a technical point of view, this is the case. But I have always been talking about political risks, not about technical risks. The political risk of this project is the impact on the project owner's ability evaluation. Therefore, for a project owner, his decision-making idea must be like this: if a small vendor is selected and the project fails, he is suspected of making a wrong decision. Therefore, you must select the best and most expensive vendor. In this case, you may report to the leaders that we have selected the best product, the best hardware and the best service, the best software developers, are the industry's best party B. They have joined hands to do this, but they are still doing this. The implication is: This is not my decision-making problem. It is really difficult for this project to change.

Of course, in the end, the project will not be useless, and it will be successful if it can still be used. However, if the project is poorly done, everyone can see it. As a result, the project will be used later and the political responsibility will be pushed away.

This is my second understanding of this choice: politically speaking, choosing the biggest vendor is the most "Political Security" strategy.
