Similarities and differences between Oracle Enterprise Edition, Standard Edition, and other versions, oracle Enterprise Edition

For different development and deployment environments, Oracle divides the same series of Oracle databases into four versions: Standard Edition One, Standard Edition, and Enterprise Edition) and Personal Edition ).

1. Standard Edition One

The Standard Edition One is an Oracle version that is provided for small-scale users. It provides small-scale database servers. This version is relatively inexpensive and suitable for small-scale single-server environments or large distributed Department-level environments. However, the standard One can only be used on servers with two processors at most.

2. Standard Edition

The Standard Edition provides all functions of the Standard Edition One and real-time application clusters that the Standard Edition One does not have. The Standard Edition provides support for larger computers and service clusters. It can be used on a single server with a maximum capacity of four processors or a cluster server with a maximum capacity of four processors.

3. Enterprise Edition

The Enterprise Edition is an Oracle version for online transaction processing (OLTP) environments with large business volumes, data warehouses that process massive queries, and other Internet-level applications that require relatively high performance. Compared with the Standard Edition, the Enterprise Edition can run on more platforms, including more advanced functions, such as data mining, parallel query, and bitmap indexing. The Enterprise Edition provides more efficient, reliable, and secure data management. In short, the Enterprise Edition provides enterprises with all the tools and functions to meet the availability and scalability requirements of today's mission-critical applications. It contains all the components of the Oracle database and can use other optional products and packages.

4. Personal Edition

The Personal Edition is a single-user edition of the Enterprise Edition, which allows developers to develop on a single machine. The Personal Edition is similar to the Enterprise Edition, so developers can use the Personal Edition to write applications and then transplant them to the Enterprise Edition or Standard Edition servers of multi-user databases. Some companies use the Personal Edition to deploy single-user applications. The Personal Edition does not have real-time application cluster options and management packages.

5. Oracle Lite, formerly known as Oracle Mobile, is a version developed for a single user who uses wireless devices. It uses different database engines than other Oracle versions. Oracle Lite is developed for note books with limited memory and storage capacity and other portable devices. Oracle Lite uses a simpler database engine that supports the same SQL as other Oracle databases. in Oracle Lite, it can run applications developed by other Oracle databases, it can also copy data with other Oracle versions.
The Oracle Personal Edition, Standard Edition, Standard Edition One, and Enterprise Edition contain the same application development components, such as PL/SQL and Java programming interfaces used to write stored procedures and triggers. Although the Enterprise Edition provides additional scalability, availability, and security, these features are generally transparent to application developers, any application written in Oracle Database versions can be run in other versions. For example, Apis supported by Oracle Enterprise Edition are usually supported by the Personal Edition and Standard Edition.

In addition to Oracle Lite, all Oracle database versions are developed based on the same database engine. Oracle Standard Edition can be easily upgraded to the Enterprise Edition without any modifications to databases, applications, or management processes.
