Implementing agile does not require a certain or recommended use of tools. Ideally, looking at the requirements on the index card, the development can be done through the command line. However, a number of tools have emerged in recent years that have contributed to the successful completion of agile development. Migan and Gaia recently conducted a survey to try to draw on the use of tools by Agile development teams.

According to two, one of the reasons they did the survey was to assess whether agile teams were willing to use simple tools.

Many companies are still using traditional project management tools for agile development, such as MS Project, spreadsheets (MS Excel). After interviewing companies, we found that many agile tools offer many different customization options, but are more difficult to use than spreadsheets, pens, and paper, and less intuitive.

The survey covered 100 delegates from 35 countries, including the United Kingdom, Sweden, Egypt, the United States, France, Canada, India, Spain, Poland, Ukraine, Malaysia, Brazil, New Zealand, Romania, Italy, Australia and Germany.

The survey results show a very interesting phenomenon, which is that simple tools and agile project management tools software are often mixed:

    • While using other agile tools,25% users use traditional walls and paper ,23% use spreadsheets ;
    • Although the Agile tool software has a story card function,62% of the team is still using traditional tools, such as walls and paper ;
    • The most desired feature for Agile tools is ease of use, followed by customization and price;
    • The least favorite thing about a tool is the lack of integration with other systems, and the inability to export customized reports.

Migan and Gaia will post a detailed survey analysis, but according to two, preliminary analysis shows that simple and practical tools are most commonly used.

The
Agile Tool Usage survey gives the fact that most companies insist on using simple, practical tools, such as Leangoo, that are simple and easy to use, and for them usability is the most valuable place for a tool.

This result is similar to a study done by Michael Dubakov and Peter Stevens, previously targetprocess.

The results of this study reveal that simple tools such as whiteboards, cards, large real-world charts are divided into 57, while web-based agile tools are divided into 52 and spreadsheets. Based on the philosophy of agile, most teams don't want to complicate things.

Michael and Peter have integrated their findings and made recommendations to other teams. They conclude that the actual, web-based, or both tools are likely to be used, based on different team composition and required status reports.

No status report required Status reports are important.
