The shutdown function of Windows Vista is no longer directly provided to users like Windows XP. After installing the system, normal users only have three function keys: Sleep, locking, and function, the host key is hidden in the function menu, and you must select it from the function menu each time you want to use it. In addition, our commonly used sleep functions are not directly provided. How can we set them to use them normally? In fact, many of the following functions can be directly modified by the Vista optimization master, and the speed of the on/off machine can be optimized.

Making "shutdown" easier

Obviously, every time Vista shuts down, you need to click the function key and select "Shut Down" from the drop-down menu to shut down. This is indeed too troublesome and may also lead to misoperations. In fact, we can convert the "Sleep" button in the lower-right corner of the Start menu to the "shutdown" button, which is much more convenient.

Go to the system and maintenance> power options window from the control panel, and select a balanced power plan under the preferred plan (this is also the default setting ), click the "Change Plan Settings" link below, and then click "change advanced power settings" at the bottom of the pop-up window. The "Advanced Settings" Window of "power options" appears, click "+" on the left of "power button and lid" to expand the "Start" menu power button ", here, you can change the power settings of the power button in the Start menu (figure 1). You can see that the drop-down list box provides three actions: Sleep, shutdown, and no operation, of course, you can select "Shut Down" to make it take effect after confirmation.

If you think the setup process is too cumbersome, you can select "change power button" in the power options window of the control panel ", select "Shut Down" in the drop-down list box when you press the "power button". Save the changes and confirm the changes to take effect.

TIPS:

Click the blank area of the taskbar and press the Alt + F4 key combination. Now we can see the Shutdown option dialog box similar to Windows 2000. Of course, the default Shutdown option is still "Sleep ", select an appropriate option from the drop-down list box.

Retrieve the lost "sleep"

By default, Vista automatically enables the hybrid sleep power management mode, which is a low-power sleep state that protects open programs and documents when the computer is asleep. If you are using a laptop, enabling the sleep mode has more obvious advantages, because the sleep status on the laptop does not require any power to save open documents and programs, therefore, Vista can automatically enter sleep state when the battery power reaches extremely low.

However, the "Sleep" option may not be displayed under the power option in the Start menu, and the "Sleep" option does not appear in the function keys, probably because of the following: in terms of hardware, the computer does not support sleep, the sleep function is disabled by the system administrator, and hybrid sleep is enabled. However, follow the steps below to restore the "Sleep" function that disappears.

Step 2: confirm the computer's support for sleep

First, check whether the computer supports sleep. Select "attachment> command prompt" from the Start menu, and right-click and select "Run as administrator ", in this case, you may need to enter the administrator password or UAC for confirmation, and then manually enter the following command:

Powercfg-

This parameter can be used to report all available sleep states on the system, and try to report the reason why the sleep state is unavailable. The result will be displayed after execution, which can be clearly seen from here, the computer supports sleep. You can use the "powercfg-devicequery s4_supported" command to list all devices that currently support sleep.

Step 2: Disable hybrid sleep

Go to the "power options> edit plan settings" window from the control panel, and click "change advanced power settings". The "power options" dialog box is displayed, expand "Sleep" and select "allow mixed sleep". The default setting is "open". Please change it to "off ", click "OK" in the lower-right corner of the dialog box to make it take effect.

Step 2: Enable sleep

The operation is still performed at the command prompt. manually enter the following command: powercfg-h on. The command takes effect immediately after execution, and the system does not need to be restarted, now we can see the sleep option in the drop-down menu of the function key in the lower-right corner of the Start menu (Figure 2), and the name "hiberfil" appears under the root directory of the disk where the system is located. sys's Sleep file, which is equivalent to the physical memory capacity.

Figure 2 enable sleep

Clear sleep files and restore disk space

As mentioned earlier, after the sleep function is enabled for Windows Vista, a disk named hiberfil is automatically generated under the root directory of the disk where the operating system is located. sys file. The file size is equivalent to the physical memory size. So how do users with insufficient disk space Delete this file?

Step 2: Disable sleep

Go to "power options" from the control panel and disable sleep here. In the left-side task pane, select change computer sleep time. The change plan settings: balanced window appears, here, set the option to "never" to enable the computer to sleep. Note that if you are using a laptop, set "battery" and "power on" in a similar way, and click "Save changes" in the lower right corner to make the settings take effect.

Step 2: Clear sleep files

Open the "computer" window, right-click the disk where the Windows Vista operating system is located, open the Properties window, and click the "Disk Cleanup" button in the lower right corner. The system starts to automatically scan the system, the dialog box shown soon appears (Figure 3). Here you can see the "Sleep file cleaner". Select this project and other projects to be cleared, click "OK" in the lower-right corner. A confirmation dialog box is displayed. After you confirm the items again, you can clean them up.

Figure 3 clear a sleep object

We have a simpler way to disable sleep, but we need to run the command prompt as an administrator. manually enter "powercfg-hibernate off" or "powercfg-h off ", disable the hibernation function and automatically delete the hiberfil. sys File.

Note:

1. Click the power button to bring the computer to sleep instead of shutting down.

2. By default, the system will automatically enable "hybrid sleep". When you enter the sleep state, you can save the opened documents and programs to the memory and hard disk at the same time.

3. After hibernation is enabled, a huge hiberfil. sys file is generated in the root directory of the system disk. After hibernation is disabled, the file disappears automatically.

What is sleep and standby?

The Windows series supports industry-standard ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface) power management technology. The main modes include sleep and standby ".

In sleep mode, all files and files enabled on your desktop are stored as image files and then shut down. After you turn on the power source again, the program and files will be enabled on the desktop before the shutdown. This function allows you to take a break while using your computer. You can continue to do the previous work after the rest.

In standby mode, the power supply of unused hardware components is cut off to reduce the power consumption of computers. Although the standby mode can cut off power for peripheral devices, screens, and even hard disks, it will continue to power the computer memory so that your data will not be lost. This function is used to cut off the power of hardware that you do not use and save data to memory that consumes less power, reducing the power consumption of your computer.
