Small and Medium Enterprise Networks are still commonly used. So I have studied the simple configuration and application of small and medium enterprise networks. Here I will share with you, hoping to help you. According to the enterprise scale, the complexity of the network system, and the degree of network application, users have different network requirements, from simple file sharing, office automation, to complex e-commerce, ERP, and so on, we will discuss the general application of small and medium-sized enterprise networks here.

1. Simplest Configuration

The simplest application of the network is to connect several computers to form a peer-to-peer network. Computers can share resources with each other. If one of the computers has a printer or MODEM installed, other computers can use the network system, printer, and MODEM to print files and Query files on the Internet. The corresponding software can be used to manage orders, query information, and collect statistics. The network topology can be expressed as: on PC servers, network management software such as PROXY and firewall can be installed to prevent external attacks and authorize internal employees, the increase in the number of users only reflects the increase of ports, which can be achieved by stacking, cascade, and using high-density port network node devices. If you need a large amount of or real-time data communication at work, you can use an Ethernet switch to replace the hub. For example, You Need To Handle multimedia or graphic design at work.

For more requirements on security and Internet access, you can use a router as the device connecting to the Internet. The specific topology is shown in this solution, you can use a vro to connect to a specific network, such as the Internet or industry Intranet, through a ddnleased line. You can also use ISDN/MODEM to connect to the Internet through dialing. Between a vro and a hub, you can set up a server with two NICs installed, which are connected to a vro and a hub respectively as a gateway and run firewall software for network management and security protection.

In this solution, ISDN/MODEM is used as the uniform egress to avoid configuring a Modem for each Pc, which reduces the purchase cost and is easy to manage. In addition, a server and network management method are used, to some extent, the cost is reduced, but the system may be unstable and difficult to maintain and manage. Therefore, it is best to use a router as an interface to connect to the Wan on the basis of funds.

2. General applications

For small and medium-sized enterprise networks that have already reached a certain scale and have already had several internal departments, if users in all departments are in the Peer network, this not only makes many sensitive data easy to be obtained by irrelevant personnel, but also enables a large amount of communication within the Department, which also occupies a large amount of network resources, reducing the efficiency of the entire network and even causing a crash. To overcome this problem, computers that frequently communicate within the same department need to form a subnet, so that a large amount of internal data can be transmitted within the subnet, connect subnets to form a LAN.

For large applications, in addition to the network management server, we recommend that you use dedicated servers for database management and file management. As a network management host, you can perform permission limitation and subnet division, you can also put MIS, ERP, and even web pages into the server. If you use DDN to connect to the Wan, you can also load the email service program. The biggest advantage of this is that it can be conveniently managed and maintained.

Vswitches are used in the center to improve the performance and speed of the entire network. Computers in each subnet are connected with hubs. For departments that are sensitive to daily data, such as financial departments, you can consider using department servers to store important data and run firewall programs to shield unauthorized access. The hubs of common departments can be directly connected to switches in the center. For external devices such as printers and plotters, they can be placed in the center or corresponding department as needed. For internal departments that require a large amount of data transmission, a switch can be used to replace the hub as the network node of the Department.

3. Branches

When the networks of small and medium-sized enterprises develop further, branches may need to be established. If there is a certain geographic distance between branches, information sharing still needs to be carried out within the enterprise to achieve office automation. There are many methods for connecting branches and headquarters, but the form is basically similar.

In the solution, the branch establishes a point-to-point connection with the Headquarters router through a router. The connection mode can be DDN or ISDN/MODEM through a dial-up connection, at this time, the Headquarters router is used as the dial-in end. If the branch uses DDN to connect to the headquarters, although the two networks are geographically distant, they can be regarded as a network in the network, branches can also directly access the Internet through ISDN/MODEM. If you use ISDN/MODEM to connect to the headquarters, you cannot connect to the Internet through ISDN/MODEM at the same time. In addition to using a WAN port or backup interface to connect to a branch, the Headquarters router can also use another wan interface to connect to the WAN, providing external interfaces for the entire small and medium enterprise network.

If the branch structure and headquarters are in the same city, the use of ISDN/MODM or even DDN can be accepted by many enterprises. If the branches are distributed in two cities, branches can also connect to the Internet and the Headquarters through VPN, which can save a lot of cost and ensure security, but also reduce the real-time performance.

Summary:

To build a network for small and medium-sized enterprises, we must first plan and design the network. When constructing an enterprise's internal LAN, it mainly involves the selection of network equipment such as switches or hubs, network cabling in office buildings, and network topology planning, the assignment of internal network addresses and sharing of file servers and printers; the selection of Internet shared Internet telecommunication lines is important when building the Internet Network for Small and Medium Enterprises, if you want to apply for domain name resolution for an enterprise's Web, MAIL, or FTP website, China Telecom will assign one or more fixed Internet IP addresses to the enterprise and the ing relationship with the domain name; select an enterprise router or firewall, and perform NAT address translation for the sake of secure network operation.
