Windows stores the configuration information in a database called the registry. The database contains the configuration files, system hardware information, installed programs, and attribute settings for each user in the computer, windows constantly references this information during its running. Windows XP provides a new method to restore the registry, saving you from the trouble of re-installing Windows after the system is damaged.
L. restart the computer. After you see the message "select to start the Operating System", press the "F8" key.
2. Use the arrow keys to highlight "Last correct configuration" and press Enter. The num lock must be disabled and the arrow keys on the numeric Keyboard can work.
3. If you have a dual-boot or multi-boot system, use the arrow keys to highlight the operating system to be started and press Enter.
After Windows is started successfully, the Registry is restored to the last time the computer was started successfully. Selecting the "Last correct configuration" is a way to recover the system from a problem such as a new driver that does not match the hardware, but it cannot solve the problem caused by the driver or file being damaged or lost. In addition, Windows only restores information in the HKLM \ System \ CurrentControlset on the top of the Registry. Any changes made in other registry entries remain unchanged.
