We know from the Windows XP era that we can optimize the system with Group Policy features, including making the system more secure and efficient. Again, this is inherited in Windows 7 (hereinafter referred to as Win7). This article will explain from three aspects how to use group strategy to Win7 slimming, make Win7 become more efficient.

　　Note: Group Policy features are available only in the WIN7 professional, flagship, and Enterprise editions.

　　First, streamline system functions

Win7 is very powerful, very thoughtful, with a lot of practical features, such as System Restore and burning function, the former can quickly restore the system to "trouble" before the state, the latter can easily complete the disc burning. However, because of the different computer configuration and user needs, sometimes need to turn off some of the system's own functions, so that the computer run faster!

WIN7 has integrated the burning function, the function is not weak, the operation is also convenient. However, this function is not perfect, as long as the burner, Windows Explorer will be ready to stand by, which will undoubtedly affect system performance and resource Manager execution speed. In addition, after all, is not a professional burning software, features and flexibility is naturally greatly limited. Therefore, you can consider disabling for users who have higher requirements for burning.

Expand User Configuration → Administrative Templates →windows component →windows Explorer, and then go to remove CD burning feature and enable this policy (as shown in Figure 1).

Tip: If you enable this setting, all features in Windows Explorer that allow you to use a burner will not be valid, and this setting does not prevent users from using the burner to burn discs with a third party application.

However, System Restore takes up disk space, especially the longer it takes, and the more space you use, so you can consider disabling this feature for computers that are not configured to be high.

Expand Computer Configuration → administrative Templates → system → system restore, and then go to "Turn off System Restore" and enable this policy. In addition, System Restore can also be turned off in Control Panel.

The special caveat is that if you have a higher configuration, try not to disable the restore function. You should consider shutting down System Restore or disabling it after a backup only if the configuration is low, especially if your hard disk space is limited.

Usually with a computer, there will always be some false hints or inexplicable hints, such as: System shutdown prompt update is in progress, but the user will leave immediately; During the operation, suddenly pop-up a "Send error report" such as the prompt window, when watching the video suddenly jumped out of the screensaver, it is annoying! Expand Computer Configuration → management module →windows component →windows Update, and enter the Do not show install updates and shutdown in the ' Shut Down Windows ' dialog box and enable this policy (as shown in Figure 2).

　　Tip: If you enable this policy setting, the "Install Updates and shut down" option does not appear even if updates are installed when the user chooses the Shutdown option in the Start menu. Start this policy, after shutdown, the downloaded System update files are not automatically deleted, and will not be lost, downloaded files are also stored in the system directory, you can at any time when convenient to install updates, so more reasonable.

Many friends are accustomed to using the system's own Windows Media Player to see the movie, but the problem is, by default, it is likely to play a movie when the screen saver, the more disappointing! Although Screensavers can be disabled in the Windows Media Player Options menu, However, you can disable it completely by using Group Policy settings!

Expand User Configuration → Administrative Templates →windows component →windows Media player→ playback, and go to "Allow screen saver to run" and disable this policy. Once disabled, go to "options → player → player settings", "Allow screen saver to run" item has been dimmed (as shown in Figure 3), the description has been disabled, and then want to set, no way!

　　Tip: If you disable this policy, even if the user chooses a screen saver, the screen saver does not.

Once the Group Policy is set up, you can copy the Group Policy and use it directly after reloading the system, which is simple, with all the contents of Group Policy in the directory "X:windows system32grouppolicy" (X indicates the system disk), so copy the directory. To restore, you simply copy everything in this directory back, overwriting the existing content on the line.

To restore Group Policy to the default state, first delete the Group Policy's Directory "X:windowssystem32grouppolicy" (X indicates the system disk letter), and then run the command "Gpupdate/force" in the Command Prompt window to confirm that Soon Group Policy will be restored as new!

If you're learning to use Group Policy, you'll certainly get a big head on a variety of strategies in the Group Policy Editor, because you are unfamiliar with the location of each policy, you may find a long time in the Group Policy Editor for configuring a policy, and you can quickly find the policy by using the filter feature of the Group Policy Editor.

After you start the Group Policy Editor, select a directory in the left pane, right-click, select the "Open Filter" command on the pop-up shortcut menu to check the open filter item, right-click the same directory again, click Filter options, open the Filter Options dialog box, and select the type of policy setting to display, for example , you can choose "managed", "a drop-down list of types such as configured and commented, can also be checked by selecting Enable keyword filters, filtering with keyword filters, or by checking the start demand filter, which is flexible with the required platform and application filters. Once confirmed, the policy will only be displayed, and it appears to be much clearer (as shown in Figure 4).

To ensure system security, many friends will set up Group Policy on public Computers to prevent the destruction of foreign programs, and in order to prevent others to modify Group Policy, confused "gpedit.msc" file also joined to not allow the execution of the program, resulting in Group Policy lock!

In fact, unlocking is easy, start Microsoft Management Console Program "Mmc.exe", click "file → open", navigate to "X:windowssystem32gpedit.msc" (X indicates the system disk letter), confirm, go to the local Group Policy Editor!

Double-click the file "gpedit.msc" Limit Entry, change "Security level" from "not allowed" to "unrestricted", confirm, Group Policy lock is lifted!

　　Unlock Registry

Surfing the Internet IE home page has been changed or even locked is often the case, this can be modified through Registry Editor (or Group Policy Editor), many friends are accustomed to using Registry Editor, when entering the Registry Editor, unexpectedly pop-up "registry edit has been disabled by the Administrator" dialog box, which is usually a good thing to do the virus!
