1. Main display window of Total Commander. After a file or folder is selected, drag and drop in the left and right windows are copies. Simple use of Total Commander

   After modifying the configuration of Total Commander, let's take a look at the basic operations of Total Commander. At the beginning, it is necessary to understand the interface and functional layout of Total Commander.    

1. Click "" to switch to the root directory of the partition.

2. Click "..." to switch to the last directory.

3. You can add a custom program shortcut icon as described above.

4. Total Commander supports multi-tag browsing. Press Ctrl + T to create a new tag. Press Ctrl + W to close the current tag. Right-click the tag, select "lock this tag" in the displayed menu to lock the tag. When we run Total Commander again, the locked tag will not disappear.

5. Click the "*" button to display the Shortcut Folder list.

Prompt: The Shortcut Folder can save some common folder paths, so that we can quickly switch to a folder. The method to add is: click the "*" button and select "set ", add the folder in the "change folder menu", or open the folder to be added, and select "add current folder" in the menu ".

Step 1: Use the Total Commander shortcut

Space: Space key. If you select a folder, press the Space to display the folder capacity.

Shift + Shift backward: select up or down.

Alt + Pad +: select all files with the same extension as the file where the cursor is located. Alt + Pad-: do not select all files with the same extension as the file where the cursor is located.
       
Pad +: In the pop-up window, you can specify the file type you want to select. For example, you can define all mp3, ape, flac, and wma files as audio files.
       
Pad-: A window is displayed to show you how to reduce the selected file type.
       
F3: view the file content, such as some text files, and directly press F3 to view the content. After installing some plug-ins, you can also see the figure (TC only supports viewing BMP and other very few types of images) and icl icon library.

F5: copy the file and copy the selected file to the right pane. For example, if you select the file in the left pane, copy it to the folder in the right pane ).
       
Shift + F5: copy to the folder where the current pane is located. It is often used to COPY Copies of files for backup.
       
F6: Move a file to move the selected file to the right pane. (For example, if you select a file in the left pane, move it to the folder in the right pane ).
       
Shift + F6: Modify the file name. You can also click the file name in the same way as the resource manager to modify the name.
       
F7: Create a folder. You can enter a multi-level directory, such as abcd.
       
F8/Del: delete the file to the recycle bin. If you hold down Shift at the same time as the resource manager, the file will be deleted without being placed in the recycle bin.
       
Alt + F5: compressed file.
       
Alt + Shift + F5: the compressed file is deleted at the same time (that is, the file is moved to the compressed package ).
       
Alt + F6/Alt + F9: Decompress the file. You can select multiple compressed files to decompress the package at the same time.
       
Ctrl + PageDown: Open the self-extracting file. Do you want to view the content of a file in some self-extracting files? Ctrl + PageDown before F3.
       
Ctrl + D: List of commonly used folders. Put the folders you frequently use in this list.

Alt + Shift + Enter: calculates the space occupied by all folders in the current pane, set folders in the same way as files on the display tab in the preceding software settings, and click "size" in the top bar to sort the folders and quickly find the folder with the largest space.
       
Ctrl + Shift + Enter: Get the absolute path of the file/folder where the cursor is located and display it in the command line. I need to use this function when uploading attachments in the Forum, you do not need to browse and find it slowly.
       
Ctrl + M: change file names in batches.
       
Ctrl + Z: edit the description of the file/folder and enter some memo content.
       
Ctrl + B: Display All files in the current folder and subfolders. For example, if you want to move all files to another folder, press Ctrl + B, Pad *, and then F6.

Shortcut Key application Tips 1: Quickly select similar files
       
   In the past, we often used Shift + Mouse or Ctrl + Mouse when selecting multiple files, but in Total Commander, the selection of multiple files is also given a new meaning.
       
   Open the corresponding folder in Total Commander, click a file, and then press "Alt + Pad +" to complete all the selection of such files.
       
   Of course, this is just a type of file, but sometimes we need to select several types of files at the same time, such as when listening to music, I usually select MP3, APE, WMA and other files at the same time. Do I have to use "Alt + Pad +" three times in a row? In fact, we can also add file types in Total Commander to achieve quick selection of different types of files.
       
   Press "Pad +", click "Define", define the new file type in the pop-up "define select type" window, and enter "*. mp3 ;*. ape ;*. wma, click "save", and enter the file type, such as "music". After that, you only need to press "Pad +" to select these files ", then, double-click "music" in the list to complete the selection of such files.

Shortcut Key application Tip 2: copy a queue File
       
   The copy file function of Total Commander is almost the same as that of Windows resource manager, but some of its considerate and small designs have brought us a lot of convenience.
       
   When copying a large number of files, we can press F2 to add the files to be copied to the replication queue. At the same time, the replication window will be an independent window, this does not affect the operations on some windows.

Tip 3: copy the folder structure
       
   Sometimes, we only need the folder structure in a folder and put it in Windows resource manager. This operation is difficult to complete, but in Total Commander, all of this will become so simple.
       
   After selecting the folder to copy the structure, press F5. A copy folder dialog box is displayed. In the "select only the following types of files" dialog box, enter any characters, for example, 1234 "(16), keep the remaining items by default, and click" OK "to copy the complete folder structure.

Tip 4: Calculate the folder size
       
   This function is undoubtedly very useful for friends who like to burn CDs.
       
   I believe many of my friends have encountered this situation. When I burn a CD, I have a space of dozens of MB. It is a good idea to put some MP3 files without storing large files, however, it is not easy to find a small MP3 file, because in Windows, the folder capacity can only be viewed by "right-click → attribute, if we use Total Commander, you can use the shortcut key to complete this operation.
       
   Double-click a folder to calculate the capacity, and press "Alt + Shift + Enter". The original size of the folder is displayed as <DIR>, and its capacity is precisely displayed, in the status bar at the bottom of the window, all the files in some folders and the total size of the folders are displayed.

Shortcut Key application skills 5: Use Lister to read novels
       
   There are many friends who love novels, but do you know that Lister using Total Commander can also easily read novels?
       
   First, we need to position the cursor in the novel file in the Total Commander window (supports TXT, HTM, and HTML novels), and then press F3, the Lister of Total Commander will be called to read the novel.
       
Tip:
       
   1. If you are not satisfied with the Lister background and text, you can click "configuration> font" and set the font size in the "font" option, if you switch to the "color" option, you can also modify the Lister background and text color.
       
   2. For novels, bookmarks are an important feature. Although Lister does not provide this feature, we can use its search function to add bookmarks for novels in disguise. When we need to add bookmarks for a text segment, copy the text segment, press F7, paste the content in "search content", and click "OK" to search for it, then you can close Lister. When you use Lister again, press F7. Then you can find the last searched content (18) in the "Search for content" drop-down list ), added the bookmarks function for Lister in disguise.
