With the emergence of a large number of Wi-Fi hotspots and micro-cell base stations, the era of a single large base station tower may end at this year's World Mobile Communication Conference. This year's World Mobile Communication Conference will show a variety of small base stations and Wi-Fi integrated systems.

Ip. access is one of the Infrastructure vendors in this field. The company is the manufacturer of AT&T MicroCell consumer micro-cell base stations. The UK-based company announced its R & D Plan for E-100 on Thursday. E-100 is the first small base station that integrates 3G and 4G functions, with a Wi-Fi upgrade interface, mainly for enterprises and outdoor public places, such as large malls and large open-air Sports Ground. Ip. access will present the product at this World Mobile Communication Conference and is expected to be tested in the first quarter of next year.

Mobile operators are looking for smaller base stations and Wi-Fi hotspots to better cover outdoor areas and densely populated areas, the Wi-Fi solution will undoubtedly help operators save valuable bandwidth resources. At the same time, many manufacturers have begun to introduce new technologies to manage such new devices in large network infrastructure, while helping users switch freely in different frequencies. However, how operators will use small base stations and Wi-Fi hotspots in the future is still under discussion.

This World Mobile Communication Conference will kick off in Barcelona, Spain on March 13, February 27. Many new products in the field are expected to be unveiled for the first time. Currently, Alang has released the lightRadio Wi-Fi solution, which will be presented at this world mobile conference. This technology can more closely integrate cellular infrastructure with Wi-Fi. Last week, Stoke also announced a tool to help users switch to wireless hotspots. Earlier this week, BelAir Network announced that it would improve its GigXone product performance and management capabilities. On Wednesday, the micro-Cell Base Station Industry Alliance Femto Forum said they would change their names to the Small Cell Forum (Small Cell Forum) to better demonstrate their meaning, its connotation is no longer limited to small micro-cell base stations for families.

Peter Jarich, analyst at Current Analysis, said: "These people have already started to work in this area because they have heard operators have such demands ."

E-100 is a small base station with a responsibility far beyond the consumption level of micro-cell base stations. The product is designed to serve a maximum of 64 4g lte users, and supports 32 3G users at the same time. Ip. andy Tiller, senior vice president of marketing and strategy at access, said the product included a Speed upgrade of 3g umts (general mobile telecom business) technology to 42 Mbps (byte/second ), and provides a Mbps LTE transmission speed. All users on small base stations will enjoy this performance.

Tiroller says the E-100 has an integrated antenna with a receiving distance of 100 meters, and its Ethernet interface will provide both wired return and device power. In addition, carriers can also use other types of return based on their own needs.

The purpose of adding a Wi-Fi module is to provide the carrier with a backup network and ultimately supplement the cellular frequency capacity. Tieller said the operator is currently seeking this capability to allow them to divert traffic from traditional outdoor networks based on their capacity needs, or to separate all traffic from the cellular network. He said that by using a new standard named IP Flow Mobility, small base stations can comprehensively use 3G, 4G, and Wi-Fi networks, to provide higher capacity. However, client devices and base stations need additional software to implement this function.

E-100 represents a significant step forward for micro-cell base stations such as AT&T MicroCell to build a closed network for multiple users in the home. Like most other micro-cell base stations, MicroCell aims to improve the coverage of intra-user voice communication. Enterprise-level small base stations such as E-100 are mainly used to increase the performance of indoor settings, because outdoor large base stations may not provide better performance within the household.

Current Analysis analyst Jarich said that a small base station with built-in Wi-Fi functionality allows operators to choose how to provide wireless services in enterprise or public places.

Jarich said: "It provides a new mode. In this mode, you can provide Wi-Fi network and 3G network. When they are at a point of access, you can get everything you can get ."

However, Daryl Schoolar, an analyst at Ovum, said that small base stations still have some unsolved problems. For example, it is unclear how to prevent interference between a small base station and a large base station during communication. To simply increase the mobile data capacity, many carriers only use Wi-Fi.

Schoolar said: "small base stations are still facing the risk of excessive speculation ."
