We recommend that you use XV (Linux) or DirectX (Windows) for videos ). They use hardware acceleration with the best performance. The inconvenience caused by DirectX in Windows Vista is that it disables Aero.
X11 and DirectX: noaccel does not use hardware acceleration. They have the worst performance. In addition, DirectX: noaccel displays poorly in full screen mode.
GL and Gl2 use the 3D acceleration of the video card. Their performance is better than DirectX: noaccel and X11, but they are not as good as DirectX and XV. Gl/Gl2 will be of great help to Windows Vista users.
In terms of audio, in Linux, you should choose OSS or ALSA. I don't like ESD and arts because they consume more CPU resources.
In Windows, the audio drivers are dsound and Win32. I have read that dsound may sometimes cause audio and video synchronization problems. If yes, try Win32.
Smplayer also has some other drivers that allow you to save videos to image files or audio to disks. These drivers are not officially supported by smplayer. Please use them with caution.

This may be a problem with NVIDIA graphics or Windows drivers. Gl/Gl2 does work when you use a real mplayer window, but it does not work when the video is embedded into other applications.
