Symptom
When you start or run any game listed in the "apply to" section of this article, you may encounter the following problems: • The game stops responding.
• The Game unexpectedly exits.
• The computer restarts unexpectedly.
Solution
To solve this problem, follow the steps below.
Method 1: Clean the computer
When you start Windows in the usual way, some programs are automatically started and run in the background. These programs may include third-party antivirus programs and system utilities. These programs may interfere with a game listed at the beginning of this article. If this happens, you can clean up your computer before running the game to prevent these programs from starting automatically.

Method 2: delete and reinstall the game
1. Click Start, point to settings, and click Control Panel ".
2. Double-click "Add/delete programs ".
On a Windows 98 or Windows Millennium Edition (Me)-based computer, click the install/uninstall tab.
3. In the list of installed programs, double-click the Microsoft game you want to delete and click Uninstall or change/Delete ".
4. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the deletion process.
5. Insert the game CD-ROM into a CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive.
6. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation process.
If the installer cannot be started automatically: 1. Click start and then click Run ".
2. In the open box, type drive: setup.exe, where drive is the drive letter of the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive.
3. Click OK ".
4. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation process.
Method 3: Adjust the graphics hardware acceleration
To adjust the graphics hardware acceleration, use the methods applicable to the following operating systems:
Microsoft Windows 2000 or Microsoft Windows XP
1. Click Start, point to settings, and click Control Panel ".
2. Double-click "display ".
3. On the "Settings" tab, click "advanced ".
4. Click the "Troubleshooting" tab.
5. Move the hardware accelerator slider to two scales left of all (disable all cursor and advanced drawing accelerator settings ).
6. Click OK, and then click OK again ".
7. Test the game.
Microsoft Windows 98 or Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me)
1. Click Start, point to settings, and click Control Panel ".
2. Double-click system ".
3. On the performance tab, click graphics ".
4. Move the "hardware accelerator" slider to a scale on the left of "all" (Set "Most acceleration functions ).
5. Click OK, and then click Close ".
6. If you are prompted to restart your computer, click "yes ".
Method 4: Disable the agp texture in the DirectX diagnostic tool.
1. Click start and then click Run ".
2. In the open box, type dxdiag and click OK ".
3. Click the "display" tab.
4. Click Disable In the DirectX function next to "AGP texture acceleration ".
5. If you see the following warning message, click OK ":
This will disable the use of AGP for all display devices that support the AGP (accelerated graphics port) in the system.

Method 5: Reduce sound Acceleration

3. On the sound tab, In the DirectX function section, change the hardware sound acceleration level to basic acceleration ".
4. Click exit ".

Method 7: update the video driver
Contact your video adapter manufacturer to learn how to obtain and install the latest video driver version of the video adapter. To see if any applicable driver updates are available, visit the following Microsoft Windows Update Web site:

Confirm the name and manufacturer of your video adapter: 1. Click start, and then click Run ".

5. Click exit ".
Method 9: Install the latest VIA chip driver
If you are using the VIA Technologies chip motherboard, you can solve this problem by installing the latest chip driver.
