Solutions to "VMware" VMware Workstation virtual machines cannot be networked

VMware provides three modes of operation, which are bridged (bridging mode), NAT (network address translation mode), and host-only (host mode).
If you want to use VMware to create a separate virtual server in the LAN, provide network services for LAN users, or you want to create a virtual system that is isolated from other machines in the network for special debugging. At this point, the choice of the working mode of the virtual system is very important. If you choose to work in an incorrect mode, you will not be able to achieve these goals, you can not fully play the role of VMware in network management and maintenance. Now, let's take a closer approach to VMware's three working modes.

Understand three modes of work

VMware provides three modes of operation, which are bridged (bridging mode), NAT (network address translation mode), and host-only (host mode). To properly apply them in network management and maintenance, you should first understand these three modes of work.

1.bridged (Bridging mode)

In this mode, VMware virtual operating system is like a local area network of a set of host, it can access any machine in the network. In bridge mode, you need to manually configure the virtual system IP address, subnet mask, and the host machine in the same network segment, so that the virtual system can communicate with the host machine. At the same time, since this virtual system is a stand-alone host system in the LAN, it can manually configure its TCP/IP configuration information to enable access to the Internet via a gateway or router over the LAN.

The relationship between a virtual system and a host machine using bridging mode is like two computers connected to the same hub. To communicate with each other, you need to configure the IP address and subnet mask for the virtual system, otherwise you will not be able to communicate.

If you want to use VMware to create a new virtual server in your local area network, you should choose the bridging mode to provide Internet service for LAN users.

2.host-only (host mode)

In some special network debugging environment, requires that the real environment and virtual environment isolation, then you can use Host-only mode. In host-only mode, all virtual systems can communicate with each other, but virtual systems and real networks are isolated.

Hint: In host-only mode, the virtual system and host machine system can communicate with each other, which is equivalent to the two machines connected by twisted-pair wires.

In host-only mode, the TCP/IP configuration information for the virtual system (such as IP address, gateway address, DNS server, etc.) is dynamically allocated by the DHCP server of the VMNET1 (host-only) virtual network.

If you want to use VMware to create a virtual system that is isolated from other machines in the network, perform some special network debugging work, you can choose Host-only mode.

3.NAT (network address translation mode)

Using NAT mode, the virtual system uses the NAT (network address translation) function to access the public network through the network where the host machine resides. In other words, using NAT mode enables access to the Internet in a virtual system. The TCP/IP configuration information for a virtual system in NAT mode is provided by the DHCP server of the VMNET8 (NAT) virtual network and cannot be manually modified, so the virtual system cannot communicate with other real hosts on the local area network. The biggest advantage of using NAT mode is that virtual system access to the Internet is very simple, you do not need to do any other configuration, only need host machine to access the Internet.

If you want to use VMware to install a new virtual system, in the virtual system without any manual configuration can directly access the Internet, it is recommended that you use NAT mode.

Hint: The above mentioned NAT mode VMnet8 virtual network, the VMNET1 virtual network in host-only mode, and the VMNET0 virtual network under the bridged mode are all generated by VMware virtual machine automatically configured and do not need users to set up themselves. VMnet8 and VMNET1 provide DHCP services, and VMNET0 virtual networks are not available.

We want to ensure that the physical machine network is smooth, the Web page can be opened. First check to see if the VMware Workstation Virtual Machine Network Service has started because software such as the 360 accelerator ball may automatically ban network services for virtual machines. Select "Computer" * (W7 is called "Computer", XP system is called "My Computer") right-management-service, find the service with the beginning of the VM, select the right button-start, on it.

Then right-click-property to start automatically instead of manual start.
