The first thing we need to know is that Windows 7 does not actually occupy that much space, except to include files such as virtual memory, to ensure that the system is used more smoothly. Of course, recommended in the installation of C-disk partition in the 30G or higher, because now many friends are installed in C disk, and daily use will also result in the reduction of C disk capacity, so the depth of the small proposed that we have the conditions to allocate a larger space is better.

After installing Windows 7, we usually have the following folders in the C disk and the main source of space occupancy:

Program Files: Application folder, the general software will be installed by default here (64 users will have a program Files (X86) folder, is the system of 32-bit software installation directory, is normal)

Programdata: System folder, the use of the placement program data, settings and other documents, do not recommend deletion.

Windows: The folder where the operating system's primary files are stored is important

Users: Save the user's profile and data, the "Users" folder in Windows 7 is actually the documents and Settings folder in XP.

Hiberfil.sys: Files for the hard disk space occupied by the system's Hibernate function

Pagefile.sys: Virtual Memory paging File

There are other folders:

$RECYCLE. BIN: System folder, which is the "Recycle Bin", is not deleted

System Volume Information: Systems volume label information file. The backup information for System Restore is stored in this folder.

Perflogs:windows log information files, such as disk scan error messages. Perflogs is automatically generated by the system.

Local Installation source for Msocache:office

These are the main file and folder contents in "C-disk", and other files will appear during use, such as the possibility of a file named with a number of letters, which may be the update Temp folder for Windows Update, which is usually automatically deleted.

The Windows folder and user folders are described in detail below:

Windows folder:

This folder contains the main files for this Windows system, where the largest folders are System32 and WinSxS.

System32: A system-critical folder that contains a large number of user Windows files, primarily DLLs, CPL, drivers, and some files that support the system's operations.

Winsxs:winsxs is a very important folder in the Windows directory of Vista/windows 7, which contains a number of important components, and the version is also very complex, in order to ensure the normal operation of Windows, the files inside are not deleted.

User folders:

This folder will include data from the user's use, program content, as well as documents, music and other content, into the user folder will find the user name named folder, open will see the desktop, my music, My Pictures, my videos, favorites, My Documents, music, AppData, Folders such as downloads.

Desktop: Will save the current user's desktop all content, many friends are accustomed to put the file on the desktop, these are occupied C disk space Oh!

My music, My Pictures, my videos: As the name suggests, these things will be saved here by default, and of course many friends are placed in a separate place. Also, one thing to be aware of is that content that is downloaded using itunes is placed in my Music folder by default and takes up space in the C disk.

Favorites: Contains the Favorites file in IE browser

Some downloads of Downloads:ie and many browsers or other programs will be saved here by default, and will also occupy some "C-disk" space.

My document: Is my document, save a lot of program records files, such as the commonly used Outlook, QQ, MSN folder data files will be saved here.

AppData: Program data storage, that is, the early Windows system in the application data, installation software, user-defined settings, temporary folders, Quick Launch folder.

We introduced the "C-Disk" in the end of what there are, let us look at how to make the larger and bigger "C-Disk" burden:

1. Clean up temporary files: You can free up disk space and make your computer run faster with Disk Cleanup from your system. This program deletes temporary files, empties the Recycle Bin, and deletes various system files and other items that you no longer need. You can enter "Disk Cleanup" in the Start menu search box, select the partition you want to clean, select the type of file you want to delete, and then make sure that you can clean it. (Other third party software also includes cleaning functions, such as CCleaner software, but Third-party software may be a certain risk, use note)

2. Remove unwanted software: In fact some friends will ask, I installed a lot of software is not in C, but why C disk space or less? In fact, although the software installation is not in the C disk, but the data generated by the software, user personal use of custom data, etc. are kept in C, such as Programdata, AppData and so on, these software will still occupy some use space. We recommend that you do not install too much use of software, one-time use of software after the use of the deletion is the best.

3. Desktop files do not more: Although the file on the desktop is very convenient, over time has formed the habit of putting all things on the desktop. Although this is very convenient, but this will occupy C disk space, some friends will even reach a few g above. So you can put the file in other partitions is the best drop, of course, you can create a folder in other partitions, and then shortcut to the desktop, the file dragged into the good. You can also change the location of the desktop folder to a different location, as we described below.

4. Location of those folders: folders in the C Disk user folder, Downloads, My Pictures/music/videos, and so on, default to the C disk, but you can manually change the location of these folders. Take the desktop: Open C-user-corresponding User name folder, Desktop folder icon on the right to select Properties, click the "Location" tab, and then click the move to select the other sections of the folder to save the content, other folders can also be set according to this method (if you turn to use after the problem, click "Restore the Default value" To restore the default settings, click "Find Target" to navigate to the appropriate directory.

5. Sleep why also occupy space: Some friends will ask, why do I open sleep also occupy space? First of all, we understand hibernation, hibernation is actually to save the data in memory on the hard disk and shut down the computer, the next time the boot will restore the data to memory, easy to start quickly. If the Windows Hibernate feature is enabled, the system disk generates a file about the size of the memory, named Hiberfil.sys, and this file is not transferred to other partitions, so the open Hibernate function will occupy a certain C disk space, if not used, you can use the command to close:

In the Start menu, enter CMD in the search box, then right-click the Cmd.exe icon and select "Run as Administrator", enter the following command at the cursor blink and click Enter to make the order effective.

Powercfg-h off

Then we look at the space on the system disk and we find a few more G free space.

6. What to do with virtual memory: Virtual memory combines the computer's RAM with the temporary space on the hard disk. When RAM is running slowly, virtual memory moves the data from RAM to the space called the paging file. Moving data into and out of a paging file frees up RAM so that the computer can do its job. Generally speaking, when the system is installed, virtual memory is automatically managed by the system, of course, we can manually adjust these, and in order to reduce the C disk space footprint, we can move the paging file to other space larger disk, to save the system disk space and reduce disk fragmentation production:

(1) Right click on "Computer" and click "Properties", in the open page, click on the left of the advanced system settings, in the Open window, click the Performance section of the "Settings" button, and find the "Advanced" tab

(2) Click on the "Change" button, in the open "Virtual memory" window, uncheck the check before "Automatically manage paging file size for all drives" and select "No Paging File" and click the "Settings" button to make the settings effective so that the paging file on the system disk is deleted.

(3) Select another disk of the system disk, and check the "System Management Size", click "Set" button and click "OK", as prompted to restart the computer to make the settings effective. In this way, the paging file is transferred to another disk.

When our C disk is getting smaller, don't worry, look at the above methods, compared to help save some space.
