At the end of the year ago, I joined my neighbors and installed ADSL in partnership. My computer was used as the Internet host and connected to the telephone line through a dedicated ADSL MODEM, in this way, virtual dial-up is used to achieve the most affordable and simple way to access the Internet, while nearby neighbors use the hub network switch device with the proxy server software, to connect their computer with the author's computer into a LAN, and finally share the author's ADSL to access the Internet. However, this shared Internet access method has encountered many drawbacks over time. The most obvious drawback is that, once my computer is not started, all the computers in my neighbor's house cannot connect to the Internet.

If the network is to be connected for a long time, it is required that the computer of the author's home, as a proxy server, be started on. Obviously, this requirement is very difficult to implement. Is there a way for neighbors to access the INTERNET through the shared ADSL when the proxy server is not started or the author does not want to access the INTERNET? Yes. You only need to use ADSLMODEM with the routing function to solve this problem!

As long as the communication department in which your ADSL Router is installed has server support and the ADSLMODEM with the routing function is used, computers in neighboring homes can access the INTERNET without interference from other computers or hosts. All computers that access the INTERNET through ADSLMODEM with routing functions become independent hosts, their status has nothing to do with the status of any other host.

In this case, the ADSLMODEM used by the author two years ago belongs to the old type and does not have the so-called routing function. This function only appears in the new adsl modem device. Do I have to replace the ADSLMODEM device to solve the problem? In fact, you can upgrade the early ADSLMODEM device so that it has the routing function, so you do not need to invest again. However, not all ADSLMODEM devices support "soft upgrade". For example, devices with USB interfaces cannot be upgraded, and devices with RJ45 interfaces connected to NICs can be correctly upgraded.

To install and upgrade an ADSL Router, you can change the firmware of the internal data set on the device, change its running mode to the routing working mode, and then refresh and save the data, you can complete the upgrade task. Due to the different upgrade points provided by various manufacturers of the ADSLMODEM device, the upgrade methods are also different. ◆ Modify the IP address of the NIC connected to the MODEM, set it to 168.0.0.1, and set the subnet mask of the NIC to 255.255.255.0; 3. Create a simple FTP server, at the same time, set the network IP address of the FTP server and the network IP address of the network adapter to 168.0.0.1. Start the anonymous user name, set the password to null, and set the folder where the firmware has been downloaded to the root folder accessed by the user. 4. Open the start dialog box, enter telnet.
