For security and performance reasons, it is recommended that you install Exchange 2013 on the member server only, not on the ActiveDirectory directory server. However, you cannot run DCPromo on a computer that is running Exchange 2013. After you install Exchange 2013, changing its role from a member server to a directory server is not supported, and vice versa.

Installing Exchange2013 on a computer that is running in Windows Server Core mode is not supported. The computer must be running a full installation of Windows Server

If you have Exchange installed on the server, you will not be able to upgrade Windows.

To upgrade to Microsoft Unified Communications Managed API (UCMA) 4.0, you must first uninstall any previous version of UCMA that was installed through Add/Remove Programs.

After you upgrade Exchange 2013 to a newer cumulative update or Service pack, you cannot uninstall the new version to revert to the previous version. If you uninstall the new version, Exchange is removed from the server.

If you want to downgrade your Exchange Server from an Enterprise Edition license to a Standard Edition license, you will need to reinstall Exchange
