However, for some network novice, still should pay attention to the following several aspects of the problem.

Connection to a computer or switch

The LAN port of a broadband router can be connected directly to the computer or to a hub device (hub or switch). If the number of computers is low, you can connect them all to the LAN port. If you have a large number of computers, you can connect LAN ports to hub devices to provide Internet Connection Sharing for more computers.

It is important to note that connection hub devices and computers should use different twisted pairs, or they may cause connectivity failures. Normally, the connecting computer uses a straight line, and the connection hub device should use a crossover line (except to connect to the uplink port). In addition, there are some products that support smart ports (such as D-link, Tp-link, etc.), these products can use straight line.

II. connection with ADSL modem

When using broadband router to realize Internet Connection Sharing, ADSL modem must adopt Ethernet interface and connect to WAN port. The ADSL modem of USB interface cannot realize the connection with the broadband router. In addition, the connection between ADSL modem and broadband router should use straight line.

Third, DHCP and IP address pool

By default, the broadband router enables the DHCP service, which means that computers on the network only have to select the "Automatically obtain IP address information" option to assign IP addresses through DHCP. However, in the actual operation process, should pay attention to the following points:

1. The use of residential broadband access mode, should ensure that the internal IP address of DHCP allocation and the use of the IP address of the community in different network segments.

2. When a broadband router adopts a static IP address, in addition to typing the assigned IP address and subnet mask, you should specify the IP address of the DNS and default gateway, and set the DNS forwarding capabilities of the broadband router.

3. When ADSL access to the Internet, often also need to set VPI and VCI values, these values can be queried by the broadband provider.

Four, automatic disconnection

If you use the billing rate for timing charges, you should set the router to on-demand connection and establish an Internet connection only if the user makes an Internet request. At the same time, it should also set the waiting time for automatic disconnection, that is, when there is no Internet access request within the specified time, the router can cut off the ADSL connection automatically, thus saving the access cost.

Five, MAC address binding

Some broadband providers bind MAC addresses to the authentication server in order to limit the number of access users. At this point, you can connect the computer that is bound to the MAC address to the LAN port, and then, using the MAC address cloning feature, copy the MAC address of the network card to the WAN port of the broadband router, thereby enabling Internet Connection sharing across the network. It should be noted that the Tp-link, D-link and other products support the MAC address cloning function.
