SQL Server -- warning supersocket info: (spnregister): Error 1355

When SQL Server is started on a computer running Microsoft SQL Server 2000, SQL server programs always try to register virtual servers in Active Directory. You may see the following warning in the Microsoft Windows NT Event Log:

This information is not an error message. This message is only a warning, indicating that SQL Server cannot register the service principal name (SPNs ). This indicates that the Microsoft Windows NT challenge \ response (NTLM) authentication mechanism is used instead of Kerberos.

Cause
Generally, this message appears because the SQL Server service account is running as a domain user who does not have the necessary permissions to register the SPNs. In addition, this error may also be related to a cluster server that is not currently supported by active directory or a Failover virtual server.
