SQL SERVER 2000 installation tutorial

Note: Windows XP cannot install the Enterprise Edition. win2000 \ win2003 Server

I. Hardware and Operating System Requirements

The following table describes the hardware requirements for installing Microsoft SQL Server 2000 or SQL Server Client management tools and libraries. Computers with minimum hardware requirements

Pentium 166 MHz or higher.

The memory (RAM) must be at least 64 MB. We recommend that you set it to 128 MB or more. Based on the author's experience, the memory capacity and data capacity can be kept at a ratio of, so as to better exert its efficiency. Hard Disk Space requires about MB of program space and MB of data space reserved for display

The image analysis tool must be set to 800x600.

The following table describes the operating systems that must be installed when Microsoft SQL Server 2000 is used.

The operating system requires the Enterprise Edition of Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0, Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0, Windows 2000 Server, Windows 2000 Advanced Server, and Windows 2000 Data Center Server. (IE5.0 or a browser must be installed for all versions) Standard Edition Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0, Windows 2000 Server, Microsoft Windows NT Server Enterprise Edition, Windows 2000 Advanced Server, and Windows 2000 Data Center Server. Personal Edition Microsoft Windows Me, Windows 98, Windows NT Workstation 4.0, Windows 2000 Professional, Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0, Windows 2000 Server, and all more advanced Windows operating systems.

Note: Some features of SQL Server 2000 must be available in Microsoft Windows 2000 or later versions. Therefore, if you install Windows Server 2000 (Advanced version is recommended), you can learn and use more functions of SQL Server 2000 and enjoy better performance.

Ii. Detailed installation process

After you insert the Enterprise Edition installation disc into the optical drive, the following prompt box appears. Select "Install SQL Server 2000 component". On the next page, select "Install database Server ".

Select "Next", and then select "Local Computer" for installation.

In the "installation and selection" window, select "create new SQL Server instance ...". For initial installation users, this installation mode should be selected, and "advanced options" are not required for installation. The content in "advanced options" can be adjusted after installation.

In the "user information" window, enter user information and accept the software license agreement.

In the "installation definition" window, select the "server and client tools" option for installation. We need to install the Server and client at the same time, so that we can complete all relevant operations on the same machine, it is very useful for us to learn SQL Server. If you have installed SQL Server on another machine, you can only install the client tool to access SQL Server on other machines.

In the "Instance name" window, select the "default" Instance name. The SQL Server name is the same as that of the Windows 2000 Server. For example, if the name of my Windows Server is "Darkroad", the name of SQL Server is also "Darkroad ". SQL Server 2000 can install multiple instances on the same Server, that is, you can install them several times. In this case, you need to select different instance names. We recommend that you set the Instance name to 10 characters. The instance name appears on the user interfaces of various SQL Server and System Tools. Therefore, the shorter the name, the easier it is to read. In addition, the Instance name cannot be "Default" or "MSSQLServer" or the reserved keyword of SQL Server.

In the "installation type" window, select "typical" Installation option and specify "destination folder ". The default installation location of programs and data Files is "C: \ Program Files \ Microsoft SQL Server \". I chose disk D because disk C is the system zone and disk D is the application zone. NOTE: If your database has more than 0.1 million data records, reserve at least 1 GB of storage space to meet the needs of a large log space and index space.

Data will increase with the time used, so it is best not to set the data files and log files on the system disk.

In the "service account" window, select the "use unified account for each service..." option. In "service settings", select "use local SYSTEM account ". To "use a domain user account", add the user to the local administrator group of Windows Server.

In the "Authentication Mode" window, select the "hybrid mode..." option and set the password of the Administrator "sa" account. If you only want to learn, you can leave this password blank to facilitate logon. If it is a real application system, you must set and keep the password! :) If you need higher security, you can select "Windows Authentication Mode". In this case, only local users and Domain Users of Windows Server can use SQL Server.

In the "select license mode" window, enter the value based on the type and quantity you purchased (0 indicates no quantity limit ). "Per customer" indicates the maximum number of connections allowed at the same time, and "processor license" indicates the maximum number of CPUs that can be installed on the server. (Don't choose too many. The more you choose, the more expensive you will be !)

The installation time is about 10 minutes. After the installation is complete, the interface appears and the following menu is added. If you are a beginner, you can start "Books Online" for a simple study!
