SQL Server 2008 R2 new features: Master Data management

Provide in-depth monitoring of hardware resources, such as instrumentation, reports and so on, can help users tune SQL Server, improve the play of hardware resources and ensure the healthy operation of the system.

SSMs has been further enhanced to provide more features, policies, reports, etc. to help users manage the database.

The primary Data Service (MDS) is provided, and master data from the enterprise can be managed directly through SQL Server.

Strengthened on BI, the new "Data mash Up" feature enables data collection, integration, and data integration to become more powerful and easier, with Excel 2010 Plug-ins for data analysis in Excel, and the design and presentation of reports enhanced to become easier to use.

Geospatial data types are enhanced to support geo-spatial visualization.

Integrated with Share point 2010, you can share analysis reports through SharePoint. You can also make strong configuration and management of SQL Server policies and BI in Share point.

Although there are so many listed, but in my opinion the overall is 3 points:

Provides master data management, which I think is the biggest highlight of R2.

The original database engine related functions are enhanced, such as hardware support, geospatial data, SSMs and so on.

Further enhancements to the BI, which integrate with next-generation products such as Excel 2010, Share Point 2010, make bi more powerful and easy to use.
