From:Microsoft adding in-memory capabilities to SQL Server
At the SQL Server professional organization Summit held this week, Microsoft announced that,The memory technology will be implemented in the next SQL Server version, codenamed hekaton, which will allow the entire database to run from memory.
Microsoft's move is to speed up online transaction processing (OLTP) by loading data tables, or even the entire database, into the server's working memory, to improve performance.
Doug Leland, Microsoft SQL Server project manager, said:
"Applications on Hard DisksProgramOr the database is limited by hard disk I/O. If you move them to the memory, the performance will be greatly improved. Microsoft is currently testing this memory technology, codenamed hekaton ."
Microsoft expects,With the memory technology, transactions can run 50 times faster than the standard SQL Server.
Doug Leland said hekaton will maintain all ACID properties required by relational databases-atomicity, consistency, isolation, and durability ),This technology will write serialized transaction logs in the memory, and then regularly write these logs to the disk. In addition, this technology will use some compressionAlgorithmTo store more data in the memory.Hekaton can also compile stored procedures so that they can run in memory.
To help database administrators deploy memory technology,The next version of SQL Server will include a tool that allows you to easily specify databases or data tables running in the memory. In addition, no changes are required for applications that use these databases.
Doug Leland pointed out that this is not the first time Microsoft has entered the memory technology field. Previously, the in-memory technology was used in both the workbook and Power View, allowing users to quickly manipulate a large amount of data in the Excel file.
At the conference, Microsoft also released SQL Server 2012 SP1 and announced some new features. For example, Excel 2013 users can directly interact with SQL Server data.
Currently, both Oracle and SAP have launched memory databases and related devices. In the future, competition in this field will become more intense. Microsoft did not disclose any details about when to release the next version of SQL Server.
