Steps for achieving WLAN dual-host shared wireless Internet access

The previous article introduces the specific steps for achieving WLAN single-host wireless Internet access. The following describes the content of Dual-host shared wireless Internet access in detail. First, we need to determine which method to use and then perform different settings. See the following for details.

There are two ways to achieve shared wireless Internet access:

One is the Infrastructure mode, which is centered on a Wireless AP or a wireless router that supports Internet access. Other Wireless Clients connect to the device through a wireless network adapter for Internet access.

The other is the Ad Hoc-Ad Hoc mode (peer-to-peer mode), also known as the point-to-point mode. This mode does not require a Wireless AP or a wireless router, but directly uses a wireless network card to form a point-to-point temporary network. However, to achieve Internet sharing, one computer must be used as the host to provide Internet access; the other as the client to share the Internet through a wireless network card.

(1) Infrastructure mode

Dual-host shared wireless Internet access through the Infrastructure mode requires the preparation of network hardware, including a Wireless AP or wireless router, two computers are configured with a wireless network card. The specific implementation method is the same as the single-host wireless Internet access. The difference is that a wireless client is added, and the wireless Nic settings of the client are basically the same, pay attention to the IP address and Advanced Access Mode settings.

(2) Ad Hoc Mode

The configuration of Dual-host shared wireless Internet access through Ad Hoc mode is relatively complicated. The following uses Windows XP as an example:

Because the Ad Hoc point-to-point mode is adopted, Wireless AP or wireless router is not required. However, you still need to install a wireless network card for each computer. The interface type of the network card is not limited. If you select a computer as the server, you must install the Windows XP system and use the built-in "Internet Connection Sharing" (ICS) function to achieve Internet access sharing. In addition, you also need to install a common Ethernet NIC to facilitate connection with ADSL, Cable Modem, and residential broadband (ADSL is used as an example here ). The installation methods of wireless and Ethernet NICs will not be described here.

After preparing necessary hardware, install the wireless and Ethernet NICs in the host. The wireless network adapter is used to communicate with the client over the network, and the Ethernet network adapter is used to connect to the Internet access device.

In Windows XP, the wireless network is supported. After the wireless network card is installed, the configuration is automatically completed, but you still need to modify the configuration accordingly.

Open the "Network Connection" window in the host, right-click the "local connection" icon, select the "properties" command to open the Properties dialog box, and set the IP address of the local connection to "automatically get IP Address ".

Right-click the "wireless network connection" icon and select the "properties" command to open the Properties dialog box. Click the "wireless network configuration" tab and select the "configure my wireless network settings in Windows" option. Click the Add button. In the displayed dialog box, enter a network name, for example, wlan, and click OK. Click "advanced" and select "any available network (preferred access point)" or "computer-only (specific)" in the "advanced" dialog box, click "close.

In the "Network Connection" window, right-click the created ADSL connection, select the "properties" command, and click the "advanced" tab in the displayed dialog box, in the Internet Connection Sharing option group, select "allow other network users to connect through the Internet connection of this computer, select the "wireless network connection" option in the "home network connection" list, and click "OK.

When the dual-host shared wireless Internet access is configured, perform the same settings on the client computer, including adding a "wlan" wireless network and selecting "computer-only (specific)" Advanced Access Mode, then, Windows XP automatically connects to the wireless network. In this way, as long as the host accesses the Internet, the client can share the connection to surf the Internet.

To disconnect a shared connection, open the "Network Connection" window. An Internet gateway is displayed. Right-click the gateway and select the "Disconnect" command to disconnect the shared connection, select the "status" command to view the current network connection status.
