Step 1: Download Native IOS software for Catalyst 6509 from CCO Based on the flash card capacity;
Show slot0: shows the flash card capacity. The selected software size should be smaller than or equal to the flash card capacity.
If flash card capacity is 24 M, we choose the IOS software c6sup22-psv-mz.121-8b.E15 for Catalyst 6509, which is used for S2 and MSFC2, feature software for service providers, version is 12.18b (E15 ). The size is 18.1 MB, which is equivalent to that of the existing flash card.
These download c6sup22-psv-mz.121-8b.E15 from the CCO Software Center are saved in the machine's TFTP home directory.
Step 2: Save the existing CatOS system software and switch configuration files;
If the switch fails to run normally after the software is switched, backing up and restoring the existing system software and configuration files will help you quickly switch the system to the initial state. Start the TFTP server process.
cs6509>(enable) copy slot0: cat6000-sup2k9.7-1-2 tftp cs6509>(enable)copy config tftp |
Step 3: delete some files on the flash card for ample storage space
cs6509>(enable)cd slot0:
cs6509>(enable)dir
cs6509>(enable)delete cat6000-sup2k9.7-1-2
cs6509 >(enable)squeeze slot0: |
Step 4: Open the TFTP server program and copy the IOS file to the flash card and bootflash:
cs6509>(enable)copy tftp flash
ip:*.*.*.*
filename: c6sup22-psv-mz.121-8b.E15
flash device:slot0bootflash:) Run the dir slot0: and dir bootflash: Command to verify that the c6sup22-psv-mz.121-8b.E15 file already exists on flash card and bootflash. |
Step 5: modify the configuration register of the switch so that it enters the ROM monitoring mode at next startup:
cs6509>(enable)set boot config-register 0x0 |
Step 6: Switch to MSFC2 so that it can be started in the default mode next time:
cs6509>(enable)session 15
msfc1# configure terminal
msfc1(config)# config-register 0x2102
msfc1(config)# end
msfc1r#wr m
msfc1# exit |
Step 7: In the switch status, restart the switch so that it enters ROM monitoring mode, and manually select the system software to be loaded in monitoring mode:
rommon 1 > CONFIG_FILE=
rommon 2 > sync
rommon 3 > boot slot0: c6sup22-psv-mz.121-8b.E15 |
Step 8: After guiding Cisco IOS, format the bootflash and copy the IOS file from the flash card to the bootflash:
router#format sup-bootflash:
router#copy slot0: c6sup22-psv-mz.121-8b.E15 sup-bootflash: |
Step 9: Set the configuration register to normal, that is, try to start the switch one by one based on the system file list in the boot system flash command in the configuration file in NVRAM, the following configuration indicates that the switch first directs the system from the c6sup22-psv-mz.121-8b.E15 file on the flash card, if the boot fails, then use the c6sup22-psv-mz.121-8b.E15 file on the engine bootflash to boot the system:
Router(config)# boot system flash slot0: c6sup22-psv-mz.121-8b.E15
Router(config)# boot system flash sup-bootflash: c6sup22-psv-mz.121-8b.E15
Router(config)# config-register 0x102
Router# write memory
Router# reload |
